Gauker Farms 04.06.2021

About to leave Denver and head for home! It was only 2 days, but I have learned so much about being a (volunteer) director to our state beef council! I am so full excitement for the US beef industry and our ability to grow quality beef (we've seen an increase in choice and prime beef across the US!) using fewer resources (land, water, energy) all while meeting consumers' expectations for beef! Consumers love beef! They're willing to spend more on it than other proteins (chic...ken, pork) and TASTE is one of the highest rated reasons for that (88%), followed by value. I met so many incredible people this week, and learned just how small the world really is, meeting a farmer who hosted an internship for one of my former 4-Hers! And another gentleman who has family living in Reading now. Don't be surprised if a TV crew for RFD TV shows up at our place sometime soon. They are fascinated by the "friendly neighborhood beef lady," and how our family has the opportunity to share the beef story with so many of you, putting a face and (more than you ever wanted to know!) story behind the beef on your dinner plate. Hopefully they come AFTER we have our new steer barn and not during construction. This is just a volunteer gig. No job change. I'm still keeping it real at Lundale Farm. But I love the opportunity to learn from and grow with other cattlemen across the US through these off-farm experiences to keep me in the know and grounded. And regular market season returns this Saturday, every week from 9-noon at Downingtown. My favorite time of year right behind fall! Thanks for following along and letting me be all sappy about my gigs. I've got to go board a plane and get home to my hobos!

Good morning from the farm! Last weekend Cheese and I enjoyed a family trip to Happy Valley where we had lots of fun exploring the area's watering holes and shopping for some local libations. After a busy week we are back in action. Downingtown, thank you for coming out on a beautiful Saturday and tending your yard before or after market. My coolers were significantly lighter when I got home and I thank you for that! Market is every Saturday 9 to noon now - so I don'...t have to think any more! On Saturday, I just get in the car and drive to Downingtown! I had the opportunity to attend my first in-person meeting as a new director to the PA Beef Council. I'm truly excited for the opportunity to learn more about how the Council does SO MUCH with our checkoff dollars to make beef the center of family meals. AND, this week, I'm fully vaccinated and ready to fly! I'm going to Denver for a quick 40 hour trip to a training with other state Beef Council directors from across the US. I'M SO EXCITED TO TRAVEL (without a child)! The fields are getting sprayed, the planter is put back together with all of its new parts, and Lee is closer to ready for planting season! The seeds are not in the ground by April 24 per his imaginary timeline celebrating his late Grandpa, but I think having the planter ready will suffice. We are OPEN at the FARM on Monday from 5:30 to 7! I have burgers, steaks, briskets of all sizes and more! Steaks and Such Bundles: $100 4 ground beef, 2 packs 4 oz burgers, London Broil, 2 NY Strip, 2 Delmonicos, and 1-2 sirloin steaks (depending on weights) Preorders recommend so I have it ready for you, but not required. Have a great week with beef on your family table, friends, and hope to see you soon. Hope your grill is ready because I THINK spring may be here for real this time... unless it snows in May again this year.

Every day is Earth Day on the farm! I had the opportunity to write an article about ways to be more intentional about our Earth, and Cheese participated in a video about the beef life cycle! We're working on her public speaking skills when she has a focused topic and isn't just hashing out a juicy story. View the article here: https://www.readingeagle.com//article_2fbb36b8-9d23-11eb-a... View the video below! (Cheese is at the VERY end - but the entire video is pretty fun!) Happy Earth Day, friends!

Just a Wednesday morning update from the breakfast table. 5:30 - 6:30 Wednesday: open on the porch! Closed this weekend so Jodi can find her mind! We have ONE QUARTER OF BEEF available. 175ish pounds of ground beef, patties, steaks, and roasts. $750. You can split it with a friend! But you must take it all. PLEASE consider filling your freezer! ... I swear my kid is a lover not a fighter. When I put her on love video the crazy all comes out...

Good morning from the funny farm! Whew! It's been just a wee bit busy around these parts. Did you know it's April 11 already?! APRIL 11! Lee has this imaginary goal every year to get the planter in the ground April 24. That was his grandpa's birthday, and every year he says he wants to be planting then. I say it's imaginary because it's rare that the soil is at a temperature that is appropriate for planting, and that he's ready. Our planter is almost ready, but he's working ...late every day this week for his other job, so... Cheese and I are taking off this weekend. It's my last Saturday off until Thanksgiving, y'all, so we are saying, "Peace Out, Berks County!" and heading to Happy Valley for a weekend with my mom and sister for some safe fun in the (hopefully!) sun enjoying some local libations and eating great food with some Creamery and Lion Shrine visits thrown in. But before we go... As you saw in my video, we're full to the brim with beef right now. Downingtown did put a serious dent in that this weekend, but we still have many of your favorites. I think the only thing I'm out of is flank steak and filet (the story of the beef slinger's life, really). We will be OPEN ON THE PORCH this week from 5:30 to 6:30 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Yes, 3 days! $100 package: 1 arm or chuck roast 6 oz patties 4 ground beef 2 chipsteak Stir fry strips 2 NY strip and 2 flat iron steaks $135 package: 2 each: cubes, stir fry, chipsteak 4 ground beef Brisket Arm or chuck roast 1 sirloin steak 2 Delmonicos and 2 NY Strip steaks Preorders encouraged but not required. Spice Rubs from Lundale Farm: Sweet & Spicy and Every Day Go-To - $5 New stick flavor: Sweet Heat: the sweet stick with some chopped jalepenos thrown in. Too spicy for Lee (clearly, we all knew that was coming). But after Wednesday, beef slinging is on hold until Monday, April 19. Your favorite neighborhood beef lady needs to go find her mind in the bottom of a Seven Mountains wine bottle!

This feline friend has made a home with the calves in the hutches. Cheese has named it SKINNY LEGS! Open today on the porch from 10 to noon for your beefy needs. Then the holiday cooking will commence. Wishing you and yours a healthy, happy Easter if you celebrate!

Alright, team. While Cheese still doesn't have it together, and honestly, none of us do, the website is up and loaded with inventory for beef sales at the farm. Here's how it works: Order (and pay) online - https://gauker-farms-917893.square.site/s/order Pick up your order at the farm this Saturday, April 3, between 10 a.m. and noon.... IF, and only if, you want to pick up at Crooked Row Farm on Friday between 3 and 5 p.m. instead, you can order online and email me that you want to pick up there. Online ordering is only available until noon on Friday. Why? Because I need to take down the inventory and pack for market Friday afternoon. I have sold the same steak 12 times in the past by not doing this, and I THINK I have finally learned my lesson. If you just want to come to open store Saturday without ordering, you're welcome to do that. You can also email me an order and pay at pick up. Lots of options! I do still have one custom beef quarter remaining - 179 pounds of ground beef, patties, roasts, steaks, and oxtail. If you're looking for buying and bulk and like all of those things, I can hook you up! Thanks a bunch, and see you soon! PS - this video is an outtake for our section of an Earth Day webinar with the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative that will be presented on April 20. I'll post the link to register soon! This child has the attention span of a... 6 year old.

Good morning from the funny farm! It appears to be a soggy morning here, but Saturday?! Whoa. What a gift?!? Sunshine, warmth, lots of spring flowers! A great day for market, cleaning up the yard, moving some calves around to make room for more babies, and grilling a tasty steak to enjoy after a beautiful day. Makes the rain a little more acceptable when you know more days like Saturday's will follow. I'm pretty well stocked over here, and I haven't been well stocked fo...r a loooooong time for a sale at home. So, here's my plan: after I make my big delivery Tuesday to my best lady friends at Nomadic Pies so they can keep bringing you the most savory, creamy, and delicious Shepherds and Steak, Mushroom, and Guyere pies, I'm going to: Take inventory so I have weights of almost everything Upload to the website and open for online ordering! Let everyone know when it's up so they can order online again and see what's here, and browse, and not feel pressured to make decisions while staring semi-blankly at a board hoping a meal plan will magically pop into your head and you order the right things in that moment. (I see you and I am you.) You can pick up your orders at either Crooked Row Farm, Orefield, on First Friday between 3 and 5 p.m. OR at our farm Saturday between 10 and noon. Sound like a plan?! I hope so. I know I have been pretty sporadic with the porch sales. I'd like to tell you that will change but I also know that'd be a lie. Just know you can always text or email and we can arrange a pick up almost any time if you know what you need. Just ask! It's Sunday morning so Lee and I are going to fight over what home fries are (I thought they were cubed potatoes, he knows they are slices of potatoes lightly fried, blah blah blah, he's PA Dutch, he knows he's right...) and then enjoy a lazy day full of coffee, naps, and binging tv series. Happy Sunday, friends! We're sliding into April and the "busy season" together!
