Members of the Library Club visited the Greene County Museum on April 12th. The students toured the building that once housed Greene County's "poor farm" and le...arned about local history. The museum's Samantha Gandy and Matthew Cumberledge, along with our own Grace Rohanna who works and volunteers at the museum, walked the students through the grounds. The museum also provided each student with a copy of Pioneer History of Greene County by L.K. Evans. The trip continued to the Bowlby Library where students had an opportunity to look for books and spend some time reading before heading back to Jefferson Morgan. Students who participated were ElsieAnna Squires, Taylor Burnfield, Kierstyn Webster, Julia Cox, Grace Rohanna, and Ivy Cramer.

The W&W crew had an extremely productive weekend! Yesterday morning the crew worked on the saloon end of the coach car, measuring, sketching, and getting one pi...ece out for a pattern so new ones can be fabricated. Then we worked taking up the rail in front of the train shed so new ties can be put in. Today a few of the crew worked to install the electric outlets in the shop area of the building. A big thanks to all who worked so very hard this entire weekend, the progress in 2 days is just incredible. See more

A land beyond a vast forest with rolling hills and uninterrupted woodlands unspoiled by the presence of civilization. That was the sight Andrew Dye witnessed so...metime around the year 1771, when he first came to lands across the Allegheny Mountains and on the far side of the Monongahela River. He was a young man, just 27 years old, with a young wife and two children under the age of three; with them he had made the journey from New Jersey, across the wide expanse of Pennsylvania to a new land, new ideals, and a place where a man was in charge of his own destiny. PRR narrow gage steam locomotive 9684 from a digitized slide taken by my father, Maynard W. Krug in Northumberland, PA. Date on the slide February 1, 1953. Th...is is Waynesburg and Washington steam locomotive #4 sitting on a standard gauge PRR flat car, prepped for shipment back to it's hometown of Waynesburg for Museum display / preservation. In the PRR's locomotive numbering scheme, if the first three digits were "968" that indicated "narrow gage". Dad was a track supervisor for the Pennsylvania RR, and was assigned to Sunbury, PA in 1952-53. See more

The land where the Greene County Historical Society Museum stands has a long and interesting history. Most often, in historical writings, the GCHS grounds are l...ooked at in the context of the county home, or poor farm. That institution started in 1861, and operated for over a century, before closing and being taken over by the Greene County Historical Society. read more: http://ow.ly/jjIm50Csx4d. See more

History is so very important. It provides us with crucial insight into better understanding the world that we live in today, by studying the past. One of the ma...ny neat things about history is the observance of how various things, such as customs, music, laws and fashion, have changed over the years, and respectively, how many things have stayed the same. Among the constants, the tradition of "neighbors helping neighbors" has remained significant, especially concerning the mission of Corner Cupboard Food Bank. The Greene County Historical Society Museum has been an exemplary, invaluable community partner, continuing to preserve Greene County's rich history while working together with and supporting a multitude of community agencies and organizations. Together we CAN make a difference! We would like to thank the Greene County Historical Society Museum for registering as a Virtual Host for our online fundraising campaign! GCHS is an inspiring example of neighbors helping neighbors. http://cornercupboard.org//greene-county-historical-socie/ www.greenecountyhistory.org #cornercupboardvirtualdrive #neighborshelpingneighbors #community
