Today we would like to honor Volunteer, Marie Modesto. Marie is a retired register nurse. When asked about why she volunteers for hospice, she wrote "As a former nurse, hospice volunteering is a wonderful way to use the skills I have acquired over the years. I like the concept of comfort care and appropriate help for the client and their family. It’s often a bewildering and anxious time but having compassionate and experienced staff brings such a sense of relief. My involvement over the years is a source of personal growth and satisfaction with service to others." Thank You Marie for all that you do!

In honor of Spiritual Care Week our team would like to honor our Chaplain Robert Berner! Chaplain Bob has been serving as a Gesinger Hospice Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator since July of 2001. Bob and his wife Sheryl reside in Northumberland, they raised four sons and have been blessed with 11 grandchildren. Bob grew up in Jersey Shore, Pa, before attending college where he earned a BS in Theology and a MA in Counseling. He is an ordained minister who has served as a pa...stor of four churches, he completed a two year chaplain resident training program at Danville’s Geisinger Medical Center, and has served as a hospice chaplain in both Florida and Pennsylvania. Chaplain Bob credits his faith and the privilege of hearing individual’s amazing life stories as key to companioning hundreds of families through their experiences of death and grief.
