Happy birthday to Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. Today we celebrate you, every female doctor who has paved the way since 1849, and the talented women physicians who are a part of the healthcare community today. Thank you for all that you bring to our industry! #NationalWomenPhysiciansDay

In honor of Case Management Week, we’d like to highlight our Patient Care Manager, Stacie! You may talk to Stacie when calling in to the office, whether with a question, referral, or planning care for a patient. Stacie graduated from Millersville University with her BA in Psychology. She then went on to graduate from Geisinger School of Nursing. Stacie has been a nurse for 26+ years in multiple roles. She is the Patient Care Manager of Geisinger Hospice of Lewistown and Nort...humberland. She enjoys when she is able to get out to see patients, and notes that she is thankful for the services that our hospice team provides. Stacie speaks of her personal experience with hospice when her grandmother was on services for several months before passing away: The care the nurses provided was nothing short of spectacular. I will never forget the nurse who came the day my grandmother died. She was the calm in our storm and made everything go smoothly. Stacie has 3 children, Abby, Jordan, and Connor, and one fur-baby, Titan. Outside of work she enjoys reading, watching Hallmark movies, and taking long drives to find new places. We want to thank Stacie for all of her hard work and dedication to our patients, families, and team. We are grateful to have her. Stacie, we appreciate you! Happy Case Management Week to all of the Case Managers out there!!! See more

Our hospice team is an extension of our patient’s family, and we are here to support them through one of the most important journeys of their lives. Here’s how we help: We can educate on symptom management and disease progression. We provide emotional and spiritual support to the entire family.... Our bereavement services continue for 13 months after the patient passes. We have compassionate volunteers available to provide practical assistance and emotional support. See more

Geisinger Hospice of Lewistown used creativity, innovation, and technology to bring the community and families the annual Butterfly Release and Memorial Event socially distanced and safe via drive-through pick-up and FB Live. This annual event gives families the chance to honor and remember their loved ones, marking the time of remembrance with the release of a butterfly which fittingly symbolizes the cycle of life, birth, transition, healing, and renewal. We are so glad that we were able to share this special time with families, even if it was a done a little differently this year! (Picture shows Carrie Stine, Chaplain, providing a moment of music remembrance during the ceremony and releasing a butterfly on behalf of Geisinger Hospice of Lewistown’s remembrance of our patients and families)
