When seven friends meet for a dinner party, they decide to challenge their trust in each other by agreeing to share all incoming texts and calls with everybody else during dinner. So they place all their Handys in the middle of the table, reading all incoming texts aloud and listening to all calls on speaker phone. What initially seems so funny and innocent soon yields revelations that leave friendships and even marriages in the balance. Join us for our screening of "Das perfekte Geheimnis" on April 16 at 6:30pm. The film will be shown in German with English subtitles. Attendance is limited - please register in advance using the link in the event description!

Adopt-a-rare-book...today! No. 96 - This lovely volume is a typographical monument to neoclassicism. Published in Roman type in Jena in 1797, the book fe...atures an idyllic engraved frontispiece. What is more, the book offers advice that we all would love to learn: how to live a long and healthy life with sleep, exercise, fresh air, travel, cleanliness, and a balanced diet. Won’t you help this book live a long and healthy life? Adopt it today! It needs its spine, cover, and loose front pages reattached and unsightly duct tape removed. [Catalog link in profile] D. Adopt-A-Rare-Book...today! No. 91 - Explore a new subject with this book, published in 1814: animal magnetism, which had a substantial following in Europe... and the United States into the late 1800s. While nowadays we look at the contents of this book as pseudoscience, the volume offers a fascinating glimpse into the culture of the period. It needs a spine replacement. We heard you didn't have any plans next Friday...wanna do a movie date?

The German Society of Pennsylvania 02.08.2020

Between 1850 and 1920, more than five million individuals emigrated from the German-speaking lands to the United States, and over the same period over 300 milli...on letters were exchanged between Germany and the United States. Atiba Pertilla’s presentation on October 15th (6:00pm-7:30pm) will introduce German Heritage in Letters, (germanletters.org), an initiative to find, collect, and share online correspondence that sheds light on the effects of emigration from the German-speaking lands to the United States on families and communities on both sides of the Atlantic. The project, supported in part by the Wunderbar Together USA 2020 initiative (wunderbartogether.org), is an innovative effort to create an online collection of primary sources that combines correspondence from institutional libraries and archives with letters contributed by members of the public. To register for the event: Please email the German Society of Pennsylvania office at [email protected] with your name, OR please visit our website for tickets. You will be added to a list to receive the URL link to the Zoom webinar meeting shortly before the program. You must register no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13 in order to receive the web link. The German Society of Pennsylvania German Historical Institute See more
