Historic Rock Chapel in York Springs, PA received their $6,000 NSDAR grant for historic preservation of their wonderful chapel! A special thanks goes out to Marian Witherow for the tireless help she gave to Rock Chapel in their application process. The Chapel will be adding a plaque in honor of our Gettysburg Chapter to their chapel as well as publicizing their grant award achieved through the help of our chapter.

On this day in 1789, George Washington was inaugurated as the first President of the United States at Federal Hall in New York. These patriotically decorated bu...ttons in the Museum's collection were sold as souvenirs of Washington’s inauguration. The ceremony was a grand occasion as crowds of spectators gathered in New York City to watch Washington take the oath of office. Notice the variety of designs on these commemorative buttons. Some show an eagle, some have the chain of states, and some include the phrase Long Live the President. Unlike most modern political buttons, these were made to be sewn onto clothing. PA Daughters contribute so much to our community. We raised $10,000 for Fisher House which helps military families when a loved member is in the hospital.

Please share how you are doing to remembering Pearl Harbor Day. I had the privilege of visiting Pearl Harbor a few years ago, it was incredibly humbling.

Read about what the Gettysburg PADAR chapter is doing to support historic preservation, education, and patriotism. For example, working on the #National Apple Museum in Biglerville Pa, providing local homeschooling with DAR educational resources, and helping immigrants prepare for their naturalization tests. Check out our blog to get a better appreciation of our chapters’ contributions towards the #National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's three primary missions --historic preservation, education, and patriotism.https://gettysburgdar.wixsite.com/gettysburgdar//what-we-do https://www.facebook.com/search/top

The Gettysburg PADAR recently sponsored a historic preservation grant application for the @Historic Rock Chapel Church near Heidlersburg, Pa, which is the oldest Methodist church west of the Susequanna. It was built in 1773 and rebuilt IN 1849. The church is wonderfully preserved and retains the same elegance it had in the 1700s and 1800s. Take a few moments to enjoy a virtual historical tour of #York Springs United Methodist Rock Chapel produced by the Gettysburg PADAR. https://youtu.be/j-H3sswyxD0 https://www.facebook.com/search/top
