A Honolulu native, Carissa Kainani Moore is a four-time women’s world champion in surfing (2011, ’13, 15 and ’19). When she won her first world title at 18 in 2011, she became the youngest winner, male or female, in the history of the sport. In 2014, at just 21, Moore was inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame, where she was credited with revolutionizing women’s surfing. Moore’s father, Chris, taught her how to surf at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu when she was only 5. Smitten..., she soon began racking up surfing titles as an amateur before turning pro in 2008. At 16, she became the youngest-ever winner in the prestigious Triple Crown of Surfing. With the help of her foundation, Moore Aloha, she’s committed to empowering the next generation of young female surfers to be strong confident and compassionate individuals. She aspires, through surf camps and other initiatives, to create an environment where girls feel free to be themselves, chase their dreams and are encouraged to make a difference in the world around them. In 2021, Moore will represent the United States at the Tokyo Olympics, the first time surfing has been featured as an Olympic sport. She’s a heavy favorite to medal. https://www.carissamoore.com/

Jeanette Rankin was the first woman, and one of the few suffragists, elected to Congress. Though she is applauded by Congress today, her decision to vote against U.S. participation in World War I and World War II was met with disapproval at the time. After her election in 1916, she said, "I may be the first woman member of Congress, but I won’t be the last." She was right because as of 2021, there are a record number of women making up more than a quarter of Congress today. https://history.house.gov///R/RANKIN,-Jeannette-(R000055)/

Despite her lower-middle-class background and her fifth-grade education, former nightclub dancer Isabel Perón would become Latin America's first female president. Born in Argentina in 1931, Isabel Perón's rise to power would be through her husband, Argentinian president Juan Perón, who was previously married to the late and beloved Eva Perón (aka Evita). As the third wife, Isabel, known to her countrymen as "Isabelita," would serve as her husband's vice president and First La...dy during his third presidential term, starting in 1973. However, just a year in office, Juan suffered from a series of heart attacks and died on July 1, 1974. Isabel took over as president, and while her nation and political allies and even some of her husband's enemies initially showed support for her, she quickly fell out of favor after she issued a government-run suppression campaign against her adversaries, including a string of political murders and anti-left-wing policy measures and purges. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Isabel-Peron
