Girls ROC

Ladies ROC Intermediate Thursdays May 13, 20 and 27 at Hopewell Park 6-8pm. Our Intro Ladies will be joining us for more skills down low on the drop hill, trying out our new drop ramp and skinny plus we get Down and Dirty with them. Intermediates will head to the hills for skill sessions and some adventure riding.

I want to be motivational and inspirational for everybody: my big aim is more women on bicycles. Marianne Vos Former Dutch National Mountain Bike Champion, ...World and Olympic Champion The first Saturday in May this year it’s May 1st is recognized as International Women’s Mountain Bike Day. It’s a day for female cyclists to gather, ride, and share their passion for mountain biking. GRiT (Girls Riding Together) is NICA’s effort to recruit and retain more girls and female coaches in NICA programs. NICA has brought me so much joy over the past 4 years and provided me with a community where I have been able to grow as both a biker and a person. It has chal...lenged me to take on other bike adventures and to get involved in bike advocacy. I have gained confidence, leadership opportunities and life long friends. **** Congratulations to Lucinda Luly Kaye, from Pennsylvania Interscholastic Mountain Biking League's Centre County Crows one of our 2020 Specialized Bicycles Student-Athlete Leadership NICA Awardees! Luly began biking in 6th grade and has been hooked ever since. They are dedicated to making the cycling community a more equitable space. Apart from the Crows, Luly also coaches the Single Track School for Girls, a program which attempts to get middle school girls into mountain biking, and is a part of the National Youth Bike Council which is a youth run and lead program striving to teach leadership and increase bicycle safety in metropolitan areas. Celebrating #WomensHistoryMonth with the amazing women and girls across NICA - meet Ally Scheunemann and the Central Susquehanna Hammers. When Ally joined the ...Hammers, part of Pennsylvania Interscholastic Mountain Biking League in 2017 - there was one other girl on the team. In 2018 as part of her Girl Scouts Gold Award Project, Ally worked with some of her coaches to develop Girls ROC - a 4 night beginner clinic for girls to learn mountain biking. Fast forward to 2021 Ally and Girls ROC are in their 4th year of offering camps and clinics to get #moregirlsonbikes and the Central Susquehanna Hammers have over 30% female student-athletes! Now a #NICAAlumni Ally is attending Western Colorado University where she studies Recreation and Outdoor Education. See more

Meet Ally! The inspiration behind GirlsROC. From Bloomsburg, PA currently residing in Crested Butte as she pursues her dreams of protecting our public lands with BLM and taking GirlsROC nationwide!! Her biggest role model has been her mother, an outdoors women extraordinaire whom always encouraged Ally to test her strengths in nature’s playground. Ally’s love for mountain biking stems from flowy downhills and the never ending progression that has given her the skills to conquer any obstacles on and off the trail. Happy International Women's Day! Today I wanted to highlight some incredible women, C. S. Hammers coaches and GROC co-creators: Julia Book, Amanda Beach, and my mom, Connie Scheunemann. I don't know where I would be today if it wasn't for these women. They do so much for Girls ROC and the mtb team, but more importantly to me they have been some of the greatest role models in my life. Without these strong women around me I would've never created Girls ROC, let alone even be on... a mountain bike. They have provided me much needed strength over the last few months as my life has gone through a massive transition. They gifted me with the courage and confidence to flourish as I grow up. I could not be more lucky to have them in my life. Here's to all the incredible women out there making a difference in our world, no matter how small. #internationalwomensday #moregirlsonbikes
