One of our favorite motto's is "close late, open early." The longer you keep your pool running in the fall, the better it will look in the spring. Having consistently cooler weather and cooler water decreases your risk of algae growth in the pool once the cover is on. When you do decide to close your pool, we recommend having the water tested at one of our stores a few days before so that we can help you balance the water for the winter. Bob Goodall, Owner and CEO, indicated that pre-COVID, Goodall Pools & Spas was nearly sold out from a construction capacity for 2020. But this spring, new pool interest spiked to more than ten times the typical volume since families are cancelling their vacation plans and finding ways to make their own backyard their relaxation destination. The biggest challenge facing Goodall now is that demand is significantly stronger than supply. While the construction and in-person retail side of the business came to a halt with the governor’s stay-at-home orders, the service side of the business remained open. The Goodall management and sales teams were able to maintain momentum by evolving their business model through use of virtual communication for design consultations and presentations. In addition, they added online retail sales availability starting April 1 and have had record sales in this segment. Goodall’s management team has temporarily pulled back on marketing efforts to allow them to manage the significant demand shift for new pool and spa construction, and the sales team has learned to be creative in the sales process since their typical living room consultations are limited. Bob stated that he knew it all along, but this season has affirmed for him that his employees are as important as the customer.
