Anyone recognize the lady in the portrait to the right of Ed Helms on the set of Rutherford Falls on Peacock TV? Hmmmm, she looks a bit familiar! Thanks to the Brunners for letting us know about this!
It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week! A big shout-out and Thank You to our wonderful volunteers who came out yesterday to help us spruce up the property and house for our April 30 reopening date. It was great to see everyone, and those who couldn't make it yesterday, we hope to see you soon.
We've known about, and had a BW copy of, this 1870 painting by Edward Lamson Henry for some time. The black and white version of it was reproduced in Susan Stabile's book "Memories Daughters" and is in the collection of the New York State Museum (New York State Museum). I've been looking for the color version for years. Found it! It was sold on eBay in 2009 and the seller acquired it from a high end estate in S. Florida. The sale information and photo were preserved and docum...ented by WorthPoint. The painting depicts the parlor at Graeme Park and (I would assume) the Graeme family - perhaps Dr. and Mrs. Graeme seated and Elizabeth at the parlor door greeting guests? Henry painted historic fiction, so not every detail is true to Graeme Park's parlor - the overmantle is much more ornate than ours, and the Dutch tiles are reminiscent of what we have on the second floor. The painting is quite small at 4.75" x 6.25" but so much detail!

Christmas in the colonies was celebrated with elaborate puddings and fresh citrus fruits, a rare treat in those days.
The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission is delaying the reopening of state-owned historic sites and museums, including Graeme Park until further notice. With COVID-19 cases increasing across the country, we need to take every precaution possible to prevent a surge here in Pennsylvania. Please watch our website and social media for important updates.

Happy Halloween from Graeme Park! Join Graeme Park Volunteer, Erin, for a traditional Halloween Legend for all ages and all sensory sensitivities! There are no surprises, no spooky voices, and no twists and turns. The legend of the Jack O' Lantern is a classic Irish tale about a tricky man named Jack and his meeting with the devil. You can preview the plot of the story here: https://www.history.com//history-of-the-jack-o-lantern-iri. This video begins with a mini-history ...of Graeme Park, then introduces the story, starting with discussing what a legend is and what lessons we learn from stories and legends. Then, we move on to telling the story and finish up with a Halloween Greeting.
