It's the FINAL PUSH! The vision of T&K Grassroots Kosher Food Truck started as a dream. Created by Troy Harris and Kareem Wallace, the food truck is a story about inspiration and resilience. Mr. Harris and Mr. Wallace met one another during their tenure as members of Hillel’s dining staff at the University of Pennsylvania. After nearly two decades of dedication to providing delicious and carefully prepared meals to the students, these two co-workers knew it was time to think... big and launch their own business. Using their passion for cooking along with their unwavering commitment to their respective families and community, Mr. Harris and Mr. Wallace developed the idea of a kosher dairy food truck. But the T&K Grassroots Food Truck is not just any food truck. The purpose of this entrepreneurial endeavor goes beyond merely establishing a means of supporting one’s family. These men are determined to bring renewal, financial stability, and opportunities to the community. And recent headlines have proven that even after six years of trying to make this dream a reality, the need for this type of undertaking is still very real and timely. Mr. Harris and Mr. Wallace both firmly believe that the best way to break the cycles of poverty and violence that have plagued our city is by empowering the residents of our community with opportunities. T&K Grassroots is a grassroots mission to provide participants with valuable vocational and management training, while simultaneously teaching them to become entrepreneurs. With this valuable training under their belts, participants can pay these lessons and skills forward to another wave of participants, uplifting the community with hope and promise for a brighter tomorrow. While we have made huge strides toward reaching our financial requirements needed to launch this venture, we are still falling short. We were about to launch, but like so many other small businesses, T&K Grassroots Kosher Food Truck has been affected by circumstances related to COVID-19. We sincerely thank those of you who have demonstrated your support in the past and we are asking for one more push. Please help us to reach our goal, so we can begin to make a difference, not just in the city of Philadelphia, but in our suburbs as well. T&K Grassroots Kosher Food Truck is the beacon of hope that so many of us need right now. Join this cause and take pride in knowing you played a major role in making a difference in the lives of thousands of people who need it most and who need it now. T&K Grassroots Kosher Foodtruck, building community, one meal at a time. Thank you so much for your support!
Hope everyone is staying safe and well during this time. As we move closer to opening in the near future, we would love your help! Please take TWO MINUTES to complete our interest form so we can better assess demand for the types of meals you would be interested in ordering. Thank you!
Hi from our meeting today! Guess what? The truck is finally finished! Next comes giving it a good deep cleaning, and doing some remaining administrative apps and permits. After all these hundreds of hours of work from our hearts and souls... We’re so close to opening!
Hello Grassroots Family! Thank you so much for your continued support and thanks to those of you who have reached out with booking inquiries. We would like to provide you all an update on our progress: 1. The Grassroots team is currently working with law students from Penn Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic. These students are helping us this semester to operationalize the truck.... 2. We are building a website to tell our story and to connect with the greater Philadelphia area. 3. We are in the process of completing the necessary documentation required for opening and are looking for a great location for the truck. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to contact us via our Facebook page. Our goal is to open up at the beginning of summer. We will continue to update you on our progress. We are hoping to make a positive difference in the lives of countless Philadelphians. We won’t rest until we have changed lives for the better. On behalf of Troy, Kareem, and the entire Grassroots team, we thank you and promise to continue working hard to make this dream a reality!
Almost 100 donors already! Thank you all so much <3 keep the love and support coming, help spread the word!
This is a fundraiser for Penn dining hall cook Troy Harris, his son Azir and their family. Troy is one of the staff members who stood up to speak with students... at What Happened to Black History Month?, an underpaid laborer (subcontracted through Bon Appétit) and a beloved member of the Penn community. After nearly two decades at Penn, Troy says he still makes only enough to live from paycheck to paycheck, stretched to a breaking point after paying for medical supplies not covered by insurance. His wife had to leave her nursing-home job to care for Azir. (Ubinas) Since the initial shooting of Azir a year ago, the Harris family has needed to and continues to pay staggering costs to cope with the consequences of Azir's shooting. Please share this fundraiser with other students, faculty, organizations and community members! Donations accepted by card or venmo (@lyudles) in any amount. #standwithourstaff #blacklivesmatter https://chuffed.org//support-for-azir-harris-youth-shootin
Family desperately seeking accessible housing for son who was shot and paralyzed: Can you put this in the paper? Troy asks, just home from work and weary. I...f we could find a reasonable realtor that will work with a working family, I would love to talk to them. Whatever I can do, I will work for it. I will try my hardest to get my family out. https://www.philly.com//helen-ubias-gun-violence-wheelchai Miche Yuan-Lyu
