DID YOU KNOW After the Civil War, General George Meade held several military commands, including the Military Division of the Atlantic, Dept. of the East, and Dept. of the South. He was the Commissioner of Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, and served as governor of the Reconstruction Third Military District of Atlanta. He received an honorary degree in law from Harvard University and was recognized for his scienticfic achievements by the American Philosophical Society a...nd Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science. He suffered from complications of his battle wounds and died of pneumonia on November 6, 1872 at the age of 56. He and his wife Margaretta had seven children. www.gravediggertours.com

DID YOU KNOW After the Civil War, General Robert E. Lee served as President of Washington College, beginning in October 1865, for the rest of his life. He said "we have but one rule here, and it is that every student be a gentleman." Lee suffered a stroke on Sept. 28, 1870, and died on Oct.12 at the age of 63. www.gravediggertours.com
