Greenwood Hills Association 17.04.2021

As you may be aware, over the past few months, Kennett Township has been debating options for their contracted ambulance providers. At a meeting in early Decem...ber, the Kennett Township Board of Supervisors voted and approved a motion to move forward with Longwood Fire Company as their sole provider of ambulance support effective March 1st, however gave Kennett Fire Company through January 20th to present an alternate proposal that if agreed upon would replace the current proposal. Since then, we have received many questions from the community regarding our proposal to Kennett Township. We held various meetings throughout December and January where several proposals were brought to and discussed with representatives from Kennett Township including several meetings with Longwood Fire as well. Ultimately, we submitted a formal written proposal to the township on January 27th, notably after the deadline provided, however, the plan submitted is one that had been reviewed and presented in person with township representatives as early as December 17th. This plan is outlined below. Please note, it is impossible to provide all pertinent information for every proposal without pages and pages of additional material. This is a summary reviewing some aspects that we feel are relevant. It is important to note, that while our proposal includes only two 24/7 transport capable units, Kennett Fire Company has long held the position that we feel three units are needed during peak hours, 6AM-10PM. Our proposal was made to be an apples to apples comparison with the current proposal that will be implemented March 1st if nothing changes. Ultimately, the cost savings, in both proposals, is only being recognized by decreasing the total number available ambulances units supporting our region. We do not encourage anyone to make a decision based solely on these numbers, but we do encourage all citizens of Kennett Township to join the township meeting this Wednesday and ask questions, take in additional information that can be provided and decide which proposal you want for you and your fellow residents and voice that opinion. Kennett Fire Company and our ambulance also want to thank Kennett Square Borough and Mayor Fetick for their continued support. We WILL continue to serve Kennett Square Borough regardless of how Kennett Township moves forward. We understand that no matter the decision it is not taken lightly by the township supervisors, and we sincerely hope to continue serving the Kennett Township community like we will the Kennett Square Borough community which we’ve proudly provided EMS service to for over 100 years.
