#GSCFamilyFriday picks up again with the Shires, who are new to Good Shepherd Catholic this school year. As mom Carol explained, While our route to GSC was not one we ever planned, we are so happy we ended up here. All three of our children were doing well and trucking along in public school and then bam, Covid. The onset of the pandemic and mandatory statewide school building closures last March certainly did force many parents to think differently about their children’s e...arly and middle school education. All three of my children struggled with virtual, not to mention mom here trying to teach three children in three different grades, third and under, Carol continued. All summer my husband, Matt, just knew that virtual could not be a sustainable thing in our household. So we began calling the local Catholic schools. Our local parish was full, so we decided to call GSC and crossed our fingers there were openings. By the grace of God, all three of our children were accepted, and off they went, Carol happily recounted. It wasn’t a random call to GSC, however, that brought the Shires to GSC’s front door. Carol’s sister, Eileen Coughlin, was a fourth-grade teacher at GSC for its first nine years. Now I have to be honest, Carol admitted, I am not sure if we would have ever left our public school, but all I can say is we are so thankful we did. I always thought bigger is better, but I am now learning and seeing that that is not always the case. Our kids are thriving and, most importantly, HAPPY! They absolutely love school and are beyond comfortable in a smaller setting. To sum up her family’s positive GSC experience, Carol, who is one of the school’s steady daily outdoor lunch recess monitors this year, said, Although this year has been different due to Covid restrictions, our family still feels like we belong and for that we are truly thankful. Kids matter and your family matters and that is what you get at GSC. You are known and you are cared for. As you can see in the accompanying picture, Carol, Matt, and their daughter and two sons enjoy sports, and the Shire family loves BBQs, traveling and going to Sea Isle (NJ) with family. #GSCCommunity #GSCService

"President Joe Biden attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, DC's Georgetown neighborhood, his first time attending Sunday Mass since taking his oath of office. Biden is the second Catholic president in US history, and weekly Mass is expected to be a fixed part of his schedule." https://www.cnn.com//po/joe-biden-sunday-church/index.html... Earlier this week, "Pope Francis sent an encouraging message to the newly elected president of the United States, Joe Biden, on the day of his inauguration, asking God to grant Biden 'strength and wisdom.'" https://religionnews.com//pope-francis-us-bishops-send-me/ #GSCputsGodfirst #GSCScholarship #GSCCommunity #GSCService

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, senators from Vermont. Adults who have their volunteer clearances are invited to monitor GSC children at play during lunch recess. Our teachers and staff appreciate any and all help! Just remember your face mask and dress for the weather. Sitting is okay, but most monitors stand and walk around. #GSCCommunity #GSCService #GSCistheplacetobe #GSCis4me

In the Catholic Church in the United States, January 22 is designated as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. As Catholics, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer, fasting, and/or giving alms. https://www.respectlife.org/day-2 #GSCputsGodfirst #GSCScholarship... #GSCCommunity #GSCService See more

We surpassed our Dance For Education goal in one week! INCREDIBLE! Now, how high can we go?! As Sister Helen wrote in a letter to parents today, "the more money we raise, the more iPads and STREAM equipment we can purchase for ALL of our students." As we do every school day, GSC proudly flies the flag of the United States of America on Presidential Inauguration Day 2021, a seven-digit palindrome date (1202021). Two eighth-grade students put out the American and Vatican City (papal) flags each morning and bring them back in at dismissal time. #GSCScholarship #GSCCommunity #GSCService #GSCis4me
