Halcyon Floats Roxborough

The other day I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, so this quote is quite fresh in my mind. Even more so when I think about what I have experienced in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, I announced in an email to our clients, that our Roxborough location has been check-mated by Covid-19. We will not be re-opening that location. Simply put, my heart is broken. I am going to miss serving this amazing part of the city. I’m so grateful for the opportunity I had to meet and... float so many wonderful people, and I hope I will still see you all at our Girard location. When I sent the email, I was horrified and ashamed. Closing Roxborough meant failing myself, my staff and my clients. I tried everything to keep both shops open up until the very end, but it just isn’t in the cards after all this time closed. I pressed send, sick to my stomach, palms dripping with sweat, dizzy with fear. Then it happened. The first, the second, the third - fourth - fifth comforting reply. They kept coming, one after the other, reminders of how lucky I truly am. I was showered with such kindness and understanding over the last day, it’s been truly healing - a miracle for me, actually. I was that low. To say I am grateful right now is an understatement. The original saying (Shakespeare) goes something like this, How far that little candle throws it’s beams. So shines a good deed in a weary world. You all are beautiful. #tattootuesday ... Listen folks, you want to wait about 6 weeks after you get a tattoo to float. Otherwise, you are cruisin’ for a... bruisin’! If you float before your tattoo is properly healed you risk: 1. Some severe stinging. The salty water is definitely going to sting your newly scraped skin. 2. Irritation/inflammation from the salty water on the new tatt can hinder healing, cause infection, and screw up your new ink. 3. People heal at different rates, different artists use different pressures, shading and line work can heal differently, there are too many moving parts. Six weeks is a safe bet. 4. Your artist told you not to submerge their masterpiece until it’s completely healed. Listen to the expert, always! Lest we forget Earlier in the spring, I visited Arlington National Cemetery for the first time in my life. I was shook to the core with the sheer enormity ...of the place and how it seemed full to capacity, until I saw that no, there was still room. What a heartbreaking experience, that truly has me more informed and reverent this Memorial Day. So many humans have fought so bravely and paid the ultimate price, so that I may experience life in one of the most (if not the most) privileged countries in the world. My heart breaks for the families who have lost their loved ones, as they too have sacrificed so much. Today, I surely will sit in silence and respectful reflection, honoring those who have given all for my freedom. Our country is great because of them. Much love to you, float fam.
