HAFR is now lisensed to operate the EMS service in Hanover Borough and Penn Township. Prior to this past week, Penn Township Volunteer Emergency Services owned the license to provide EMS to the community. HAFR employed the staff that operated that service. Last year, PTVES, Eagle Fire Co. #2, Clearview Fire Co. #3, and the Fire Police of Penn Township completed their merger to form Hanover Area Volunteer Fire & Rescue. As a volunteer corporation, they felt it more appropriat...e the HAFR should wholly provide and operate this service. In a previous press release, it was announced the HAFR signed an agreement that recognizes that HAVFR is our official volunteer service. This document has created a unique partnership that is dedicated to providing the best possible service to our residents. Q: So what will be changing? A: The names on the EMS units, EMS billing invoices and EMS subscription documents. All other operations will remain the same including our staff of dedicated EMS Professionals. Any inquiries regarding billing or day-to-day operations should be directed to the EMS Billing Manager or the EMS Captain, respectively. They can be reached Mon-Fri 8AM- 4PM at Station 79-2 (Clover Lane), 717-637-4949.

Not all heroes get paid for what they do. There are a lot of professionals who give of their time and talent for the benefit of others without expecting a paycheck. These people are deeply committed to making our communities a safer place to live. The costs for the services they provide is shocking. Support your local volunteers.

Received this information to share in case anyone sees one of these helicopters. In approximately three to five days, weather permitting, Chesapeake Bay Helicopters (CBH) will be mobilizing to the Met-Ed region and will begin performing UV/IR patrols on all Met-Ed 230kV transmission lines. The helicopter to be used for these patrols will be a black and silver, Hughes MD500 with tail registration number N774CB photo attached. These patrols are estimated to take three to four... days to complete, but again, any inclement weather or storm/outage-related patrols on other lines may prolong completion. A UV/IR patrol is like a routine patrol in terms of patrol speed (25-35 mph) but utilizes an ultraviolet/infrared and corona camera that’s mounted on the bottom of the helicopter. The onboard thermographer uses these cameras to view the transmission facilities through the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums to identify any sources of corona activity or overheated components that require proactive repair/replacement. The helicopter may be seen hovering while carrying out these inspections. It should be noted that the contractor has been authorized to patrol the transmission circuits in their entirety (i.e. "breaker-to-breaker"), so patrols on certain lines may therefore extend into the neighboring regions. The flight crew provides information on their daily location any local airports when in their airspace. For the safety of all involved, please allow these crews significant distance to conduct their work safely. Thank you for your time and consideration.

We are thankful for the EMS agencies and providers of South Central Pennsylvania. Thank you for being on the front lines putting others before yourself every day and especially during this period of time while we see a rise of COVID patients.

Hanover Area Fire & Rescue extends our deepest and most sincere condolences to our friends and family of Pleasant Hill Fire Company in West Manheim. Today, they lost a cherished member of their department. Former Fire Chief Kenneth R. Clousher passed away following a brief illness. Ken served as Fire Chief for at least 25 years before turning the reigns over to his son Ted. The fire service tradition runs deep in his family. In addition to serving as Fire Chief, Ken was also served as a trustee and was chairperson on their annual carnival for many, many years. Ken retired from J.C. Tangers where he was a salesman. Words alone cannot express the sorrow that will be felt throughout the fire service community and Pleasant Hill Fire Company.

November 21, 2020 For Immediate Release: It is with heavy hearts that we share with the local community that we will be cancelling all in-person Santa Claus visits this year at Hanover’s Santa Cabin. Since the beginning of our planning we understood that in order to have a safe season we would need to work closely with the local healthcare systems, UPMC Hanover and Wellspan Health along with the Borough of Hanover’s emergency management team to ensure our community COVID ca...se rates were low in order to open up the Cabin for visits, even with safety measures in place. At this time, the local cases remain at an unsafe level to invite people to visit. We were prepared for this possibility, but it makes it no easier for us to share. We understand how devastating it is for families this season that almost every tradition they were looking forward to has changed. We are also devastated. We encourage you to send your letters to Santa using his cabin mailbox downtown, follow our social media channels and website for virtual opportunities to interact over the holidays, and most of all do all you can to bring cheer to one another safely this year. Santa was most upset of all to miss a visit with you this year, but he is hopeful that there are brighter days ahead. Justine K. Trucksess Executive Director Main Street Hanover
