Our Italian Market Passive House project. The first certified PH single family residence in the City of Philadelphia shockingly. One of the many benefits is the free heat (and sunlight) that streams through the triple pane windows!

Regram from master woodworker AND wordsmith, @youroldpaljim, in his own words: Visited a project today, one that I completed late spring (thanks, COVID-19...) for @hansonfinebuilding - I milled and installed new treads, risers and associated trim work, some of which was curved. The newel post, handrail, and balusters were saved and refinished/repainted by Frisco Painting Inc., and the stairs were stained/finished by the flooring installers. Although it looks like the quarte...rsawn white oak looks glued up in the one photo, it’s all solid; that’s just an unfortunate shadow line. . This staircase was extremely out of level by 1.5 from wall to outer stringer. Structural work had already been completed, so I (painstakingly) installed everything level and ameliorated riser height discrepancies. All visible fastening was done with real nails. I can’t f’ing stand the mark nailguns leave and only use them on paint grade trim. Most people don’t notice this, but they feel it and that’s alI care about. See more

A 1986 mural found in the basement of one of our recent projects. A series of self portraits or a 2020 moodboard?

An after and before of our good friend and neighbor's kitchen renovation from 2013. We collaborated with some other good friends on this project as well! cc @rasmussen_su_architects & @jeffreytotaro

New glass railings on our society hill penthouse project. Sometimes the best install is with a lo-tec tool already onsite.

Introducing a brand new fashion forward way to wear a second mask for those of us who have acquired some extra lock length during this time.

This may or may not have happened on one of our jobs recently. Either way if he wants a job at HFB no need for a resume.

A little bit of #oddlysatisfying for you on this Saturday morning. Our intern *meticulously* cleaned this hinge. Swipe right to see how shiny it is now

This map has us feeling a bit nostalgic as we complete the sale of our former world headquarters on Kalos Street (the very first HFB office was on the third floor of John's house in what is now a mechanical closet ). There are a lot of things we won’t miss about the former HQ In Wissahickon but we will always appreciate the opportunity it gave HFB to get through our professional adolescence. Onward!

In 2013 we were hired by the Food Trust in Philadelphia to implement a project called the Healthy Corner Store Initiative, aimed at providing better food resources in communities throughout the city. Five corner stores were awarded grant money for improvements to their stores, including improved signage and lighting on the exterior, and new fresh food kiosks inside each store. These stores often serve as the primary option for groceries and by necessity all work was completed while the stores remained open for business. Food deserts exist for lots of complicated reasons, but there has never been a better time to work harder to address that fundamental problem. @ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A little Saturday throwback to this *highly* energy efficient house built in Wallingford PA. Geothermal well system for heating, cooling, and domestic water; on-site storm water retention system with rain chain water collectors; Passive House Standard triple pane windows and insulation;. Exposed steel frame and Douglas fir scissor trusses and locally sourced Pennsylvania Bluestone interior and exterior wall cladding. Pretty dreamy if you ask us Architect: @wyantarch : @jeffreytotaro
