If there were any doubts that wildlife is active during Erie winters - we just spotted an adult bald eagle in our wetlands, in the transition area near the blue water tank! Woot woot!

The weather has been quite cold lately, but that hasn't stopped the winter birds' activity! They are still out there, active and calling throughout the day. Although most of the birds in the article are not local, it's still interesting to learn about mating habits of various species, including those that mate for life. https://www.audubon.org//till-death-do-them-part-8-birds-m

While looking for picturesque cones, whether they be pine, hemlock, or any conifer, take the time to compare what you find. I've always thought it was amazing that the Eastern Hemlock, the PA state tree, had cones that were so tiny compared to the white pine. Thank you so much to our Barber Institute volunteers and Erie County Master Gardeners for their donations! Due to their hard work and investment, our newly created rain garden is well on its way to being lush with native plants. Tolerant of dry spells too, these plants will work their magic in the rain garden absorbing the water runoff from Wager Road and filtering out pollutants before the water joins Mill Creek. The rain the past two weeks already have the plants hard at work

In addition to this cool offering for schools, the Cuyahoga National Park is close to Erie - a great day trip to enjoy trails for hiking and biking and getting fresh air!

Take a look at these amazing rocks that will be lining the trails for the 2020 Halloween Rock Walk. These beautiful rocks, along with hundreds more, will be spread out along the trails tomorrow starting at 8:00AM at both Headwater's Park and Scott Park. We are so close! The Stump Jump is complete and how fun does the tunnel look? The Boulder Crawl is finishing up, along with the last touches of the Community Garden beds and compost bins. SO EXCITING!!!!!!!

Here we go! The raffle was pulled today and our winner for 2020 Erie County Park BINGO was Ruth Speice! Ruth hiked each Park throughout the summer with her companion Charlie. It was exciting to see so many entries and people enjoying exploring new parks and trails in Erie County.
