The Highlands was the host of the 2019 Crystal Fire Department Banquet on Saturday night with a packed room of 125 guests, hors d'oeuvres, buffet dinner, DJ and dancing till midnight! We are honored to have top notch fire department protecting our homes, buildings and citizens!

I had the opportunity to meet a fantastic lady that recently opened a specialty cake and confections business right here in Elk County. Interestingly she actually worked as a pastry chef before relocating and my acquaintance happened at The Highlands where she baked the wedding cake and cupcakes for the wedding party. First let me say that I have tasted just about every cake type made in the area from every baker and many are very good but what sets this baker apart from othe...rs is that she has a knack for making the ordinary extraordinary! In fact in conversation with her I mentioned that I tasted a French cake brought to The Highlands a few years ago called a "Frasier Cake" and thought it to be one of the best cakes I've ever tasted...well a few days later she brought me one that she made I have to say that I was in Heaven all over again! It was light, creamy but not fluffy, sweet with flavors of almond and strawberries. It was a cake, a confection and a pastry all in one!
