High Lonesome BirdTours 01.05.2021

We just wrapped up a spectacular Colorado Grouse tour and ended with great views of all possible grouse and quail species, finishing with the tremendous display of 60 male Greater Sage-Grouse. In order of appearance, we saw Scaled Quail, Lesser and Greater Prairie-Chickens, Wild Turkey, White-tailed Ptarmigan, Gunnison Sage-Grouse, Gambel's Quail, Sharp-tailed and Dusky Grouse, and Greater Sage-Grouse with introduced Ring-necked Pheasant and Chukar thrown into the mix. Join us next year, dates already up on the website. Greater Sage-Grouse Photo Stephan Lorenz

We are on the road again and in full swing during the 2021 Colorado Grouse Tour, where we enjoyed fantastic close views of a White-tailed Ptarmigan. Photo Stephan Lorenz

Your Bird for the weekend is the Cave Swallow (Petrochelidon fulva), a species that has greatly expanded its range. In Texas, we can study it in nesting colonies right alongside the similar Cliff Swallow and also enjoy great views at the Rio Frio Bat Cave. Cave Swallow Photo Stephan Lorenz

Your Bird for the end of the week is the stunning Rose-throated Becard (Pachyramphus aglaiae), a rare species in the ABA area. Our February tours to south Texas have a good chance to turn up this and many other rarities. Rose-throated Becard Photo Stephan Lorenz with High Lonesome Bird Tours.
