#tbt This week's Throwback Thursday is in honor of Women's History Month and Jennie Cook Himrod, a 4th generation Waterford woman who more than 110 years ago provided the historic focal point at Hillside Farms, the 1906 bank barn. In 1905 the agricultural needs of the Himrod Farm (now Hillside Farms) exceeded it capacity in the way of grain, hay and straw storage as well as stall space for livestock. James and Isabella (Cook) Himrod's only daughter Jennie Cook Himrod recent...ly had inherited the farm upon her father's passing in 1902 and saw the need for a bigger barn. The following year, in the spring of 1906 Jennie contracted a barn builder from nearby Mill village to construct the double bay 40x60 bank barn on the property. Hillside farms would not be what it is today without Jennie, the picture features Jennie in her later years with "her" barn in the background!
