On this day in 1955, Johannes Peter Wagner passed away at the age of 81. Here's a painting of the great man from earlier in his career, based off of Carl Horner's famous photograph.

OUR OPERATING STATUS CHANGED TODAY - NOVEMBER 18, 2020. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY VISITS AND TOURS WILL BE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. We will not offer hours Sunday through Thursday for the time being. We can be available during the week to accept special material donations such as veterans’ uniforms. However, as possible, we are asking that you schedule such drop-offs on Friday between 1:00 and 3:00 and Saturday between 11:00 and 1:00. Call ahead. (412) 276-7447. PM on Facebook or e-m...ail at [email protected]. The Historical Society of Carnegie, home of the famous Honus Wagner Sports Museum, is an all-volunteer organization. Our youngest volunteer is nine years old and the oldest is ninety. We appreciate the twenty-eight rostered volunteers we have who serve On Desk, with special projects or during special events. We worry about them as we worry about the residents of our much-storied town. A small group made up of our directors continue to work in isolation building exhibits and displays in the Colonel Robert R. Sawhill Jr. Center for Carnegie Military Heritage. Information on the Military Wall, the new Wall of Remembrance, is being finalized. Other commissioned or legacy research continues. We’re getting together our decorations for our holiday display in the Main Street exhibit area. This year’s is going to be extra special with a holiday tale, The Mysterious Majorette on Main Street. We miss our friends. Stay safe. ****** Please consider any of our levels of membership: Your support is very important $10 for Individual Members $20 for Active Family $25 for Contributing/Group/Organization $100 for Business/Professional $1,000 for Life Membership MAIL YOUR CHECKS PAYABLE TO: The Historical Society of Carnegie, One West Main Street, Carnegie PA 15106. VETERANS’ DAY 2020. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SERVED. THE COLONEL ROBERT R. SAWHILL JR. CENTER FOR CARNEGIE MILITARY HERITAGE is coming together well. Volunteers continue with archiving. Lighted, glass and chrome display cases have been added. Track lighting and shadow-box exhibits are being adjusted and fine-tuned. Sadly, with social-distancing issues, we cannot plan on a much anticipated, large, public grand-opening at this date. THE MILITARY WALL, a cherished visitor highligh...t, will be moved from the Main Street window exhibit area to THE SAWHILL CENTER in a new and updated format. There is still time to add a family member’s name to this time-honored permanent display in its enhanced version. Only $25 for this remembrance. Stop and see veterans’ uniform showcased in the Main Street window exhibit area. MINIATURE MAIN STREET-CARNEGIE REMEMBERED. Small group tours are available for our internationally known diorama. OF REGIONAL INTEREST, from our noted colleague in Scott Township. At one time, passenger trains passed through Carnegie about every twenty minutes.

We’re still moving along observing socially responsible protocols. Miniature Main Street-Carnegie Remembered, our famous diorama of Carnegie’s business district in the ‘40s and ‘50s is open for tours. Gina Bolin, our youngest volunteer was six in this picture conducting her first video tour and she turns nine this month. Our oldest volunteer, Harry Rieder, just turned 90.
