On Dec. 27, a federal COVID-19 relief package that extends additional federal unemployment benefits was signed into law. The state is reviewing the new unemploy...ment provisions and awaiting guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor outlining how the CARES Act program extensions must be implemented. The date of your initial application will determine which action you must take at this time: If you opened a new PUA claim in 2020, up to and including December 26, 2020, no action is needed at this time. The department will let you know when you should resume filing your weekly benefit certifications. If you have never had a PUA claim and have now opened - or plan to open - a new PUA claim December 27 or later, you may complete the application to have a PUA claim, and must begin filing your weekly certifications for benefits. No payments will be released until the Department receives federal guidance and fully implements the changes. When guidance is received, the state will implement the extensions as quickly as possible to bring much-needed relief to eligible claimants.
