Acorn is on of my favorite ladies! She is a Crested Polish chicken. Her poofy crest would be twice as full and impressive if I hadn't cut it back so much in an effort to help keep her cleaner and able to move around better. Also if she wasn't already blind she would be from her magnificent crest. She is blind and has a mild case of cross beak so she requires some extra care. I give her her own food bowl at night since she has a hard time eating out of the feeder the others do.... I'm always watching that she isn't bullied, but the girls she grew up with and now the older hens too, have mostly accepted that she is different and don't pick on her the same way they would a fully healthy hen at the bottom of the pecking order. They seem to get that she just doesn't understand what's going on like everyone else. She's a very sweet, cuddly girl. As was our other gorgeous Polish girl that we lost. I would love to get more, but I'm already reaching my chicks limit this year. Limits are all subjective though. #HuffAcresFarm #CrestedPolish #PolishCrested

Three new Olive Eggers and an accidental Cornish meat chicken! How did I end up with a meat chicken by accident? I bought it thinking it was one of the other breeds I had kept seeing at tractor supply over and over! Once the impulse buying euphoria wore off, I realized I have a chicken that will probably die of a heart attack after she grows too fat in few months. But we're not going to eat her. And we're going to do our best to keep her healthy as long as we can! #HuffAcresFarm #BabyChicks #SaphireOliveEgger #Cornish

I'm thankful for every daffodil bulb that was planted here by someone before us! And they last a long time in a vase too. My mom gave me some more daffodils, which I have begun planting for next year's early spring blooms! #HuffAcresFarm

Putting a face to the name here at Huff Acres! I'll share our Easter family picture in stories as well. I run the IG account, but I couldn't do anything we do here without my husband and children! I'm Renae Huffaker. Our last name is pronounced "Huff - Acre." It has the same long a vowel sound as acre. Pronouncing it incorrectly can lead to discomfort and/or cognitive dissonance over trying to avoid saying a bad word. Here I'm holding my favorite girl, a Prairie Bluebell ...Egger, Hickory, who miraculously overcame massive wounds in a devastating fox attack. She is back to laying eggs again! Her story is one for another day. I grew up in these beautiful Pennsylvania hills. As we moved across the country several times, I realized I just had to be back here with the trees. The story of how we found and bought our little 24 acre fixer farmhouse is another long one for another day. I had land and animals growing up, and I'm so thrilled to be able to share that life with our three young children. This little place and our homesteading goals are purely a hobby. We haven't figured out how to save much money by growing our own food or raising animals. In fact it's quite the expensive hobby. But it brings me so much joy. Even more precious to me than our family's life in the country is our family's faith in Jesus Christ. We are very happy, devoted christians in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All of our blessings come from Him. I am always thrilled to talk about and share my faith, so please do ask me about it if you have questions! Thank you for following along with our hobby farm! #HuffAcresFarm #FarmHer
