The increasing violence against Asian communities across America has once again laid bare the pervasive nature of racism in our society. We honor and mourn the countless lives taken by devasting violence stemming from hatred and racist beliefs. In the wake of the murders of 8 people, including 6 Asian women in Atlanta and the escalating violence toward Asian Americans throughout this country, we share the pain and anger of so many in our community. This increasing violence co...mpels us, once again, to look to the heart of our mission and the foundation of who we are and what we doto champion and advocate for diverse voiceswhile supporting an exchange of ideas about art and society that resonates today. ICA remains committed to fostering and amplifying underrecognized voices and alternative narratives and outlooks that help us frame and reframe our understanding of the world. Our guiding principal of centering equity and inclusion in our own work has begun internally and drives everything we do. We support and celebrate our communities extending from West Philadelphia, the university, and beyondrecognizing the resilience of those around us at this difficult moment. #stopaapihate #StopAsianHate

Join us this afternoon at 3PM EST for an online conversation with jazz luminaries Milford Graves and Jason Moran! Register now at: https://upenn.zoom.us/we/register/WN_ddyB-vD2Td-IAwK1W-Snjw #Free. #ForAll.... Live captioning provided. On March 23, 2018, Milford Graves and Jason Moran mesmerized the audience at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee with their improvisational performance. It was the first collaboration between the two artists who push beyond the margins set by the artform that has defined their careers. Despite their thirty-four year age difference, they share a profound sense of respect for history and remain committed to leaving behind a legacy that is representative of their distinctive perspectives. Today’s discussion between Graves and Moran will be a rare opportunity to sit-in on an intimate exchange between two preeminent figures of jazz, and is a precursor to the public release of their performance which is scheduled for next year. This program is co-presented by Ars Nova Workshop, and is held in conjunction with the exhibition Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal. Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal is organized by Mark Christman, Artistic Director, Ars Nova Workshop, with Anthony Elms, Daniel and Brett Sundheim Chief Curator, ICA. Restorative Contact begins with the understanding that touch is an important part of human development. It helps us to be present in the moment, in our bodies, and with other people. Join us with a partner for tonight’s online session, guided through a mostly floor-based sequence of touch and weight-sharing, using various surfaces of the body. These passive contact poses are designed to regenerate, replenish, and reset the body and mind. We work slowly and mindfully with care... and respect for our body as well as our partner’s. Deep relaxation has been shown to help with anxiety, insomnia, digestion, fertility, and high blood pressure. The positive effects of touch are far-reaching, including emotional, physical, and cognitive wellbeing. Studies indicate that touch boosts dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, the hormones associated with making people feel good, and lowers cortisol levels, which are associated with stress. To register, visit https://upenn.zoom.us//tJIqduGrqzosE9IPTWUoPGEr7KuGcvufvWBH Mindfulness at the Museum: Restorative Contact with Gabrielle Revlock Friday, November 13 6:307:45PM EST #Free. #ForAll.
