Looking to add some TEXTURE to your collection? Pilea mollis ‘Moon Valley’ is an absolute favorite of ours and a staple species for any terrarium!
Looking to add some color to your collection of green? Neoregalias are a feast for the eyes and an absolutely underrated, easy to care for way to brighten any green space! For the most vibrant color ample sunlight is essential. Outside of that, they are easy going plants that like to dry out in between watering in the winter months and only require water in their central cup! The central cup in nature allows moisture to condense and collect in the funnel to keep the plant watered. Sometimes little amphibians will even setup house in the little pool! We’ve got a nice selection of neoregalias in store now! Their color is UNREAL!
Sweater weather has us all feeling a bit more cozy This Hypo Trans Bearded Dragon is 9 months old today! Pogona vitticeps, endemic to Australia! Bearded Dragons live for 10+ years. These lizards get quite large, reaching 18 to 24 when fully mature. They reach maturity at about 18 months of age! An adult should be housed in a 4 x 2 x 2 enclosure at minimum! Being from the desert, they like it WARM The basking temperature should range between 95-100 degrees F. This can... be achieved with a high wattage basking bulb. Ambient temps can range from the mid 70’s to mid 60’s at night. Remember to always monitor your temperature and humidity by using gages. They’re a diurnal species making them active during the day but a nap for a beardie seems to be e s s e n t i a l Bearded Dragons are omnivorous, and eat a wide variety of insects and vegetables. It can be difficult to get them to eat their greens, but it’s very important to their health as they age. Introducing new foods can be done in different ways to provide enrichment and more nutrition! You can hide snacks inside of tissue boxes and allow them to forage (just one idea!). There are tons of groups dedicated to sharing enrichment ideas online, join them if you’re interested in adding an animal to your home, or to enrich the lives of the ones you currently care for! Mental stimulation and exercise are crucial for animals in captivity, even reptiles and amphibians. written by: @respo_ See more
Franco found some goodies in the Greenhaus this morning! Some new product just hit the website, we restocked on some favorites, and posted up a new batch of ILL Auctions!
Masdevallia erinacea formerly known as masdevallia horrida. Just in from another planet, this is a unique and easy to care for miniature orchid in terrarium conditions. Grass-like foliage with large cup shaped flowers in comparison to the overall plant size. This exact plant is available among others that are all currently blooming profusely!
The Mexican Red Knee Tarantula that everyone saw molt a couple weeks ago has hardened her exo-skeleton and started feeding voraciously once again! We’ve moved her back into the shop for everyone to admire (she’s Franco’s baby and not for sale)! . . We did however just update the website with lots of new captive bred spiderlings who are looking for their forever homes! Just like any other pet, tarantulas are a big commitment - some females have been documented to live up to 35 years! Most spiderlings, aka slings, can go from tiny 1 babies to adults in as little as 3 years! Check out our website for our current availability and feel free to DM, email, or call us with any questions!
These two Philodendron Pink Princess heard Naomi was working today and begged to come to the shop! . . These two are available in store for our local plant peeps now! Happy Sunday!
Captive bred Halmahera Blue tongue skink bred here in the United States! The individual available is 6 months old and eating a Repashy BTS mix. We add to the diet a variety of insects, super worms being this baby’s current favorite! - A little bit about our new animal purchasing process that was put into place by our Herpetology Manager Once you checkout with an animal you are interested in, we will forward you a DocuSign via email. You’ll have 3 days to fill it out an...d get it back to us for review. This is essentially an application going over husbandry and commitment of owning an animal. We also require proof of setup before approving the animal application. Once the application is received, a manager will be in touch with you to discuss the next steps! Please reach out with any questions along the way. And remember to research, research, research before inquiring about purchasing an animal with us. We are here to guide you, but it is up to you to do appropriate research and understand the lifelong care requirements for each species. See more
Pssssssst, this Albino Hognose has made her way into @illexotics Heterodon nasicus Western Hognose are endemic to North America. They reach a maximum of 3 feet and live for approximately 20 years in captivity. They get their name from the upturned scale on the end of their nose and are masters at digging through loose soil in search of food
Swipe to see a few of the orchids now available in store! - Orchids exist on every continent except Antarctica. - There can be up to 3 million seeds inside of a single orchid seedpod. The seeds require contact with a specific fungus in order to germinate. Most orchids have exclusive relationships with insects to pollinate them. It is so unique that many species would go extinct if their pollinators vanished.... - Depending on species, flowers can bloom anywhere from only a few hours up to 6 months! - There are more than 25,000 documented species around the world. Columbia has the largest number of native orchids, hosting more than 4,000 kinds!
