The Sunshine Vitamin Vitamin D is called the sunshine vitamin because when we are exposed to the sunlight, our body converts it into vitamin D. This summer, go outside and soak in the vitamin D. Although, be sure to avoid long exposure to the sun without sunscreen. The role of vitamin D is to help the muscles and brain function properly. There are many foods that you can eat that contain vitamin D. Fatty fish such as salmon is the best source! There are also some amounts ...in cheese and egg yolks. Fortified foods such as milk, cereal, and yogurt contain vitamin D. It is important to read the Nutrition Facts Label to check for vitamin D content! Did you know that our bodies are made up of 60% water? And even slight dehydration can result in headaches, confusion, fatigue, nausea, and cramping! Now that the weather is getting warmer; it is much more important that we consume fluids regularly. Why? Because when it's hotter and more humid, we sweat more. Which means we are losing a lot of additional fluid and electrolytes that we normally wouldn’t in the colder months. Proper hydration not only makes us feel better overa...ll, but it helps maintain blood volume, improves oxygen circulation throughout the body, helps to regulate body temperature, aids in cognitive function and alertness, and gives us energy! So how do you know if you're properly hydrated? Next time you use the restroom, look to see if your urine is pale yellow; if it is, you're good to go! Never rely on thirst to drink, because often times when we feel thirst, we are already dehydrated! Consume fluids regularly throughout day to ensure proper hydration status! See more
