I once had a client whose insurance company advised him not to consult with an attorney on an inaccurate claim. Guess what happened next? Brand X insurance company paid the claimant $14,000, $5,000 of which was the inspector's deductible. It's critical to understand that the interests of your insurance company differ strongly from your own. For obvious reasons, you want all claims to die pronto. Unfortunately, your insurance company wants just the opposite - for the claim to live and rack up legal fees. The good news is this: My interests are perfectly aligned with yours. As a successful home inspector, do you know how to sell yourself? Doing so could mean the difference between business and no business. Because homebuyers oftentimes opt for mediocre home inspectors due to cheaper costs, breaking down the cost of your higher inspection fee is crucial.

Remember - 99% of ALL claims made against home inspectors are illegitimate. So when an attorney opts to exclude certain clauses from your inspection agreement, grant them the privilege of doing so in exchange for a higher inspection fee without any harm done to you and your business.

When one of my clients was wrongfully blamed for $15,000 worth of home damages, his liability insurance company said that it would pay the claim. All he had to do was say that he was responsible. As a proficient home inspector, mediation is not the place to be. Because mediators often settle disputes by cutting damages in half, any home inspector would be stuck in a no-win situation to have a meritless claim debated.
