After lunch my mother-in-law looked out her window and asked me what kind of flowers these were growing almost to her windowsill. I had to laugh and said "Those... are weeds!". That launched my first weed fest of the season. It was wonderful to be in the gentle rain pulling weeds. They offered little resistance as the rain had softened the soil so nicely. Weeding always gets me to thinking. I began to think of the gentle rain as compassion, and the weeds as transgressions. Mine or someone else's. It's only with compassion that transgressions can come out completely with the roots, like the weeds in the soft soil. One of the most frequent questions I'm asked and I ask myself is why is it so hard to have compassion for ourselves? Like any question worth being asked, there's no simple answer. But just take the time to try to be compassionate to yourself. Let go of things you've done wrong in the past. Having some compassion for yourself will help you avoid those things in the future!
