Things can get so blurry. Revisit these reminders when you need them. #emotionalsafety #domesticviolence #survivor #emotionalabuse #phillytherapy
Injustice is rampant. People you thought you trusted are showing their true colors of racism, disregard, and hatefulness. The world feels heavier and heavier. Sitting with the heaviness... carrying on in daily tasks... feels impossible. How do you cope? REMINDER: It’s okay to feel heavy and overwhelmed. It’s okay to just do the next right thing in the next right moment. One breath at a time. One day at a time. One step at a time. Be enraged. Be sad. Be heavy. But don’t be lacking grace for yourself. #youreworthit #emotionalsafety #phillytherapy
We love being in relationships. But sometimes the fear of being alone or being abandoned causes us to act a fool. Have you ever found yourself pacifying and accommodating to the point of creating an unhealthy balance in your partnership? It’s okay to set boundaries with your partner. It’s okay to say I’m not okay with the way you’re speaking to me. I’m going downstairs. Please let me know when you’re less worked up, so we can continue this conversation respectfully. Fighting doesn’t have to disrespectful. It’s okay to want more. It’s okay to demand more. You don’t deserve to keep placating and suffering. #fightfair #emotionalsafety #relationshipgoals #phillytherapy
A new year comes upon us. A time we often reflect and hope for change. A fresh start. Patterns are hard to break. Cognitive distortions are hard to see through. Cycles are hard to end. But it’s okay to embrace the cliche to use the new year as a chance for new hope. Yes, some things may stay the same. We may face similar battles to the ones we faced in 2020. But patterns can be broken, thoughts can be clearer, and cycles can stop. This could be the year for hope- the year of a brighter future on the horizon. The year you stop drowning and learn how to strengthen the muscles that you need to help you swim stronger and faster, to new patterns, and new hope. #loveyourself #emotionalhealth #emotionalsafety #phillytherapy

Children aren’t bad. Problematic behavior is almost always an expression of need. What is your child looking for? Are they tired? Hungry? Sad? Lonely? Are they seeking your attention and affirmation? Anger and defiance and impulsivity are a cover for deeper feelings. I often support families in changing their language around problematic behavior. Instead of asking, Why did you do that?, ask What did you need?. Help your child learn how to understand their emotions and... their body cues, and then help them problem-solve around how they could have expressed that need in a healthier way. That doesn’t mean that consequences aren’t needed, it means consequences need to be accompanied with two-way conversation. And be sure to make intentional time to connect with your child- not just by tuning in to their emotions, but by laughing with them, hearing their stories, or giving them verbal affirmation. The more connected your child feels to you, the more compliance you’ll receive. #connectedparenting #emotionalintelligence #phillytherapy
