Since its establishment in 2017 as an independent advocacy organization, the Players Coalition has opened up the eyes and ears of NFL players, coaches, and executive administration to the inequalities, social injustice, and economic warfare of the criminal justice system. Recently, current players from the Cleveland Browns were able to interactively observe and learn more about criminal court proceedings from an Ohio courtroom. Read about their experience, and their interesting takeaways! https://www.clevelandbrowns.com//browns-players-work-towar #NFL #PlayersCoalition #ClevelandBrowns #CriminalJusticeReform #BailReform #ProgressiveThinking
Reality television star and aspiring criminal defense attorney Kim Kardashian isn't the only celebrity who is rallying for criminal justice reform! Country music singer Wynonna, whose daughter is currently serving time on a drug offense, is actively working with non-profit organization Hope For Prisoners to actively cut the recidivism rate through education and training of inmates. Ms. Judd has also partnered with the White House to explore new and enhance current reentry programs. #WynonnaJudd #HopeforPrisoners #WhiteHouse #CriminalJusticeReform #Reentry https://www.politico.com//wynonna-judd-criminal-justice-re
Did you know that there is a social advocacy group in Pennsylvania that provides regular visitation to county and state inmates across the Commonwealth? Justice & Mercy is proud to have an ongoing partnership with Pennsylvania Prison Society and its Official Visitors program, which pre-screens individuals and allows them to serve as familiar faces to the incarcerated. In addition to the lobbying of more humane practices and treatment within the justice system, official visitors also serve as comforting, motivational, and empowering mentors. To learn more about the program or apply, visit https://www.prisonsociety.org/official-visitors. #JusticeMercy #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #4Mind4Body
According to federal data on state and federal prisons from 2011 to 2012, nearly 40 percent of inmates were diagnosed by a mental health professional with a mental health disorder. Yet, the same survey revealed that only about half were receiving adequate treatment - medication, counseling, or both - for their illness. When prison inmates don't receive the mental health services they need, they're more likely to cycle in and out of the criminal justice system. Share if yo...u believe it's time for the Department of Corrections to prioritize the health and mental well-being for our most vulnerable population! #JusticeMercy #CriminalJusticeReform #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #4Mind4Body
As we kickoff #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, Justice & Mercy recognizes the staggering number of adult inmates throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who in addition to their legal woes face severe obstacles in receiving proper behavioral health treatment. Regrettably, for this growing population, few immediate solutions exist. Fortunately, we stand side-by-side in each of their fights. Mental health - regardless of whether someone is incarcerated or a member of a free society - is essential to everyone's overall health and well-being, and regardless of status, must be made a priority. #JusticeMercy #CriminalJusticeReform #4Mind4Body
He is Risen! Justice & Mercy would like to wish all of our supporters a blessed #EasterSunday with family and friends alike. As the late Cardinal Basil Hume once said, "The greatest gift of Easter is hope - Christian hope which makes us have that confidence in God, in his ultimate triumph, and his goodness and love, which nothing can shake." #JusticeMercy #HappyEaster
WOW! What more is there to say? We are so overwhelmed by the selflessness of our 24 volunteers who volunteered their time yesterday to lift up the spirits of 781 Lancaster County Prison inmates, as well as the administration and staff. Due to the continued financial support of our countless sponsors, as well as #criminaljustice advocates in the local community, Justice & Mercy is proud to continue this time-honored tradition every Easter to ensure that our fellow brothers and sisters are not forgotten. To learn more about how you can get involved next year, please contact Elizabeth Reidenbach at [email protected]! #JusticeMercy #ChocolateCrossDay #ThankYou
Our direct service project may have wrapped up, but #ChocolateCrossDay is just beginning! We are thrilled to welcome special keynote speaker Congressman Lloyd Smucker to our luncheon at the Eden Resort & Suites where he will address the crowd on the state of #criminaljusticereform legislation in Congress, including the passage of the First Step Act in December 2018 and recently proposed Second Step Act. #JusticeMercy #CongressmanLloydSmucker
It's a beautiful morning to spread the light of renewal! This morning, 24 volunteers will enter the Lancaster County Prison for our annual #ChocolateCrossDay, distributing Easter cards, Evans Candy chocolate crosses, and Christian hope and encouragement to over 800 inmates. As the only social advocacy group in Lancaster County who is permitted direct contact with those who are incarcerated, we are proud to continue this annual tradition and spread a message of invigoration, thankfulness, and love to those in despair. #JusticeMercy #NewLife #EasterJoy

Why limit #InternationalWomensDay to one 24-hour period? Justice & Mercy has been celebrating ALL weekend (and that doesn't include the other 363 days of the year)! Notable female change-makers who are sparking a movement of social justice include Leann Bertsch, director of the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation in North Dakota and also president of the Association of State Correctional Administrators. Ms. Bertsch has been a leading proponent of abolishing solitary confinement in prisons, as well as improving prison conditions for all inmates. In 2018, she emerged as an influential voice for national prison reform following a trip to Norway and other European countries organized by U.S. prison reform groups. #JusticeMercy #CriminalJusticeReform #FearlessFemale
As Justice & Mercy celebrates the birth of one of our Founding Fathers, George Washington, we also recognize and honor the legacy of all former U.S. presidents. We are indebted to all previous administrations for their leadership, service, and commitment to preserving the fundamental pillars of this great country. Since 1998, Justice & Mercy has drawn inspiration from and implemented the profound words of President Abraham Lincoln, "The best way to predict the future is to create it." #JusticeMercy #PresidentsDay2019 #GodBlesstheUSA
