While a new concrete parking lot may not require as much regular maintenance as an asphalt surface, asphalt may be the best way to go. When it’s properly installed and cared for, it could last for decades before you need to have it repaved.

With asphalt pavement, over time, the sun’s ultraviolet rays will cause the cement to break down, where the mixture of the asphalt, stone particles, and sand start to come apart. Pavement sealing works to prevent this phenomenon, thereby increasing the lifespan of the pavement.

Did you know that asphalt driveways are resistant to cracking? This is because the material is more flexible (as it is in part made out of oil). However, having a stable sub grade is critical to the durability of the material.
