Great things on the horizon...

While Ketchup City has been quiet for the past year, it has not been empty. Metal artist Lindsay Huff has been working with aluminum cans to create a number of murals that will be placed around Sharpsburg as part of project for Triboro Ecodistrict and Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization. Her work is incredible. She was also able to complete signs for the new thrift store Second Harvest while in the space. We are hoping to get the murals up soon, once the ground allows, so we can have an art walk (self paced) on May 22. We will have murals and more for you to find on your walk. :)

Call for artists...Sculptural Relief for Sound Barriers on Route 28 (RFQ). The Office of Public Art, working on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), seeks a visual artist or artist team to design a sculptural relief artwork that will be incorporated into concrete sound barrier panels as part of a highway reconstruction project. Located at the Highland Park Bridge Interchange on the north bank of the ...Allegheny River, the project is part of the State Route 28 ramp reconstruction project. Twelve panels with integrated artwork will be fabricated in total. Seven panels will be located on the northbound side of the interchange, and five panels will be located on the southbound side. The artwork will be created by fabricating custom formwork with relief patterns designed by the selected artist. The panels, including the artwork, will be fabricated and installed through a separate contract with a fabricator based in the Pittsburgh region. The artist will not provide fabrication for the project. Fabrication and installation of the panels is anticipated to be completed in summer 2022. Artist Fee: $30,000 + additional allowance for reimbursable expenses Deadline: Monday, March 29, 2021 at 11:59 PM ET https://opapgh.org//sculptural-relief-for-sound-barriers-/

Artist Lindsay Huff has been working very hard to turn ordinary aluminum cans in to works of art that will form murals in Sharpsburg! Here are some snippets of the inside of KCC and some of what is being created....

What is the can plan Stan? The Sharpsburg Art Mural Can Collection Plan is to allow people to drop-off cans in Sharpsburg (612 Main Street) and Millvale (BACK of 216 North Avenue). We are using the space in Millvale as a place to let cans dry out (Covid-19 precaution too) so IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DRIVE and drop-off directly to Millvale that is incredibly helpful. The space in Millvale is accessible from Lincoln Avenue and then turn on to Fornoff Street (one way). Look for the gr...ey garage door about halfway down on the right. If you can only make the drop-off in Sharpsburg we will then move the cans to Millvale to the them dry out. PLEASE DO NOT BRING CANS WITH LIQUID IN THEM. Rinse them out and let them dry before you bring them to us. See the image for dates, times and locations for drop-off! Thank you for your help with all of this as we gear up for some art making!
