This Past Week was a Very Busy Week for the Keystone Volunteers. Station 31 responded on 18 Calls between Monday 3/8/21 and Friday 3/12/21. 14 of those were between the hours of 6am and 6pm. MONDAY 3/8/21 0851 - Truck 31 dispatched to Bethel Twp. Berks County to assist Station 54 with a Working Residential Structure Fire. Thank you to everyone that was able to come out Thursday to donate blood. Below is a copy of the email we received about how the day went. Good Afternoon As promised, here are the results from yesterday’s blood drive. The turnout was incredible and was above and beyond what we expected!!! - We had 51 who signed up in advance of the drive.... - We had 67 people who showed up to donate on the day of the drive!!! - We were able to collect 58 units of blood, which is fantastic! We typically see anywhere between a 25-35% deferral rate. - We take every unit of blood and times it by three to determine up to how many lives we are able to save because of this drive. This is because we almost always break every unit down into three different blood products Plasma, platelets, and red cells. By collecting 58 units of blood, we were able to help save up to 174 lives as a result of those donations! That is tremendous! Just like it happens with every new year, 2021 brought new changes to Myerstown First Aid Unit. Dean Wagner, Deputy Chief for the last 35 years, stepped down an...d retired from that position. Dean served the Myerstown community and Eastern Lebanon with distinction the last 35 years! He played an integral part in making Myerstown ambulance a premier EMS organization. In the last 35 years, he has touched countless lives in the community, saved countless lives, and was a friend to all. He was always available regardless of time of day or night! He put his heart and soul into it! Last evening at our monthly meeting, members presented Dean with a plaque commemorating his 35 years of service! Dean was also presented with a custom gun which was bought and paid for by donations from the members of Myerstown Ambulance. We are happy to report that Dean is not completely stepping away from us. Dean has agreed to continue to serve as President of Myerstown Ambulance. Dean continues to volunteer with the Keystone Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 in Myerstown. Santa called and asked us if we escort him through myerstown dec 24th starting at 9am. Of course we said yes!! Santa wants to keep everyone healthy for Christmas. So he asked that we let everyone know that he will be waving from the truck this year and will not be getting off to greet families. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season!
