Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch 17.05.2021

Ever wonder how Kindred Spirits got it’s name? This is our friend, Kindred Ferguson, who taught John and I, along with his wife and friends, all about horsemanship. Two city folk enamored with our pretty horses, we were not the easiest studies. I was particularly difficult in my studies, as I learn quite differently than many, and I just did not understand the vocabulary of riding. I also was fixated on one standalone question, Do you think my horse loves me?... Kindred typically stepped in when I was over my head. He would say to just get on and ride it. He didn’t have the same fears for me that most others had, and also, if he caught me in the arena dancing with Calvin, he just left me to think a great thing was happening. Kindred passed away of pancreatic cancer right before I decided to do this rescue. The day of his funeral, out of thin air, the name that I struggled with for months, just popped into my mind, and it would become his namesake. Today is Kindred’s birthday. I work really hard so that what I do here is worthy of his name. I hope he looks down every now and again, and smiles a little, at what we are ever striving to do. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Kindred! Thank you for all that you did for us! We love you!

Hi everybody! I just happened to be in Aldi in the Aisle of shame (weekly finds) And came upon the toys below. They are advertised as for your pet. I j...ust want to give you fair warning that laser lights are not safe for dogs to play with! Cats can give up on their prey but dogs are different and become OCD. Take a look at the article here about laser light syndrome. I have seen it for myself and it is very sad and difficult to modify. I love Aldi but they missed the mark on this one. https://dogpsychology101.com/laser-pointer-syndrome-dogs/

I got a call this morning in regards to animals that were taken by a Humane or Police officer, and the owner wants to come and pick them up, stating that the officer told them they were here. 1) They are not here. An officer is almost never going to say where they have been taken IF the animal was seized from the property, as the animal would be considered evidence in the legal process. This led me to a wonderful conversation with some local authorities today, and this is ...what I learned: What should you do if your animal is seized? The paperwork given to you by the authorities will give directions. If you have questions, the name and contact information of the official who seized the animal will be on that paperwork, and questions should be directed to that official. Also, whoever has the animals will never be allowed to hand them over to anyone other than the authority who is involved in the case. If you do happen to locate your animal, and try to get them back, you are violating the law and will be prosecuted. Lastly, in the words of the authorities, nobody ever wants to remove an animal from a good home. But, if you have an animal that is not zoned in your are, or if you have an exotic animal that you don’t have a permit for, you will never be able to keep that animal or get it back. Sometimes it doesn’t seem fair, but the law is the law and the ordinances are the ordinances. Good learning experience for all today.
