Weekly Devotion Going Above and Beyond John Ogden Sr May 26, 2020... Then he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’ let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master. And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder (Genesis 24:12-15, NKJV). This setting of scripture deals with the story of Abraham sending his servant to find a wife for Isaac. The servant petitioned God in order to know God’s will; he planned to ask a lady for a drink at the well. If she responded that she would give him a drink and also his camels, he asked that she be the one God had appointed. When the servant asked Rebekah for a drink, she not only provided water for the servant, but as he had prayed, she went the extra mile to give water to the camels. To water the camels was a great task, as it would normally take twenty gallons of water to fill up one camel. In Rebekah’s case, she simply said she would do what was asked, but then she was going to do something more. Her generosity allowed her to fulfill God’s destiny for her life. Rebekah could have very easily said, I don’t do water for camels, and she would have missed God’s destiny for her life. Where would we be if Noah would have said, I don’t do boats, or if Moses had said, I don’t do rivers, or if David had said, I don’t do giants, or if Paul had said, I don’t do letters. God calls us to be a servant and to go beyond what is expected in the natural in order to fulfill His will in our lives. I believe that God would challenge all of us to do our best and as we serve, perform every task as unto the Lord, for only God knows the specific tasks that will open the door for our destiny in Him.

CMA Weekly Devotion In the Midst of a Storm John Ogden Sr April 14, 2020... And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm (Mark 4:37-39, NKJV). We are in the midst of a storm, but Jesus is the Waymaker. The disciples had done all they could do in the natural, and in spite of their efforts the storm continued to get worse and their situation more dire. They were experienced fishermen; this was not the first storm they had been in. They knew all the right things to do, but nothing they did was enough to save them from this storm. Out of desperation, they called out to Jesus, Do You not care that we are perishing? Jesus walked to the front of the boat and said, Peace, be still! There was great calm. As with this and other storms, we must call out to Jesus for help, He alone has the power to calm the storm we are facing. He has command over the waves and the wind. He can bring peace in an impossible situation. Put your faith in Him, ask Him, follow Him. Trust Him as the Waymaker. Father, while I don’t understand all that is taking place, I choose to trust You. I trust You through the chaos of mixed messages. You are the Waymaker, the One I can anchor to in the midst of this storm. I choose to let go of the fear, anxiety, judgement, and anger so that I may hold onto You with all that I have. May peace reign in my heart as Your command rings out. I surrender and place my trust and hope in You.

In the days when Christ was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered, and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.
