Come out this Saturday to the Aquinas Center’s One Table 2016: A South Philly Celebration of Community event for amazing food, drink, face painting, balloon animals and yoga for kids! Here’s a sneak peak of the different food you’ll have a chance to eat: Indonesian, Cambodian, Mexican, Guatemalan, Vietnamese, Eritrean and American BBQ! This fundraiser supports the Aquinas Center's summer programming for youth. We were vendors last year and it was truly a diverse coming togeth...er of cultures. We also got to experience the summer programming when we were invited to come back and teach a kid’s summer cooking workshop. Having taught dozens of cooking classes albeit our first kids class, we were blown away to interact with such eager and curious little ones, most who also have early kitchen experience! And if you didn't already know, this is the last ever event we'll be doing as Koliyan (we're not renewing our lease). So come out to eat delicious food, meet new friends and support the Aquinas Center’s efforts to enrich our youth’s lives. This means a lot to a lot of people!

Did you catch us in PHS : Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's fall issue of GROW magazine? Koliyan's urban garden was featured in the People Sharing Their Passions section. Tim started the garden from seeds and cuttings of fruits and vegetables we ate, and this tinkering grew into a garden of edibles that Anna uses in her sauces, curries, and dishes! Come try our featured dish somlaw kokoe - a Cambodian veggie stew made with locally grown veggies - at this year's PHeaSt happening this Friday! This event supports the PHS City Harvest program, providing more than 55,000 lbs of produce a year to families in need. It's easy to bond over Num Asom, coconut sticky rice steamed with jackfruit and plantain --we lovingly refer to it as the Cambodian chewy granola bar! Making this dessert is a laborious process and we still stick to traditional methods and use banana leaves as wrappers because there's no better way to seal in moisture during the cooking process, infuse the rice with a tea like aroma and feel good about the biodegradable packaging!
