February 1, 2021 PENNDOT Will Be Going to Tier 3 and 4 Restrictions at 9:00 AM There is a restriction in effect for the following vehicle types: ALL COMMERCIAL VEHICLES WITHOUT CHAINS OR ATD ONBOARD, EMPTY TANDEM TRAILERS, EMPTY TRAILER TRUCKS, MOTORCYCLES, PERMITTED LOADS, RV/CAMPERS, STRAIGHT TRAILER, TANDEM TRAILERS, VEHICLES WITH TOW BEHIND TRAILERS, TRACTORS WITHOUT TRAILERS, SCHOOL BUSES, COMMERCIAL BUSES AND MOTOR COACHES... Winter weather on I-81 northbound between Maryland State Line and New York State Line. The speed limit has been reduced to 45mph with Commercial Vehicles Right Lane Only. Due to the winter storm impacting the region, PennDOT will be going to Tier 3 and Tier 4 restrictions at 9:00 AM. Tier 3 restrictions will be on all of I-81 and on I-80 west of the I-81 split to I-99. Tier 4 restrictions will be on all of I-84, all of I-380 and on I-80 east of the I-81 split to New Jersey. Tier 3 restrictions all vehicles banned except chains on board and Tier 4 restrictions all commercial vehicles will be banned. PennDOT encourages motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.

NOTE: A lightly loaded CMV is defined as a vehicle that is less than 1/3rd of the GVWR (vehicle weight and cargo weight combined) - Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers - Enclosed cargo delivery trucks that meet the definition of a CMV - Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pick-up trucks, etc.) towing trailers, to include: Recreational travel trailers and fifth-wheel trailers - Enclosed cargo trailers - Open cargo trailers - Vehicle transport trailers - Recreational vehicles/motorhomes - School buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches without available chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATDs)* - Motorcycles
