Sayaka Machizawa Hagen, Joy Rice, and I have a new book in the American Psychological Association Division 35 Book Series. The book presents a comprehensive introduction to transnational psychology, essential to understanding the 93-95% of the world population not represented in Western psychological literature. Transnational psychology transcends nation-state comparisons and extends intersectionality to include historical, sociopolitical, economic, and other global factors t...o the analysis of interconnected oppressive institutions. The book critiques our understanding of the 5-7% represented in the literature and describes how to begin to decolonize Western psychology in practical terms, allowing readers to apply the principles in their own work moving forward. The goal is to de-center Western frameworks and to develop more pluralistic understandings of human psychology and well-being. Relevant to researchers and practitioners alike, the book can also be used as a main or 2nd text in psychology of gender/women/immigration and international psychology courses to help students move beyond Western perspectives in their careers in psychology. https://www.apa.org/pubs/books/4316193 See more
