As we work on our Fall menu, we would like to introduce many of you to some of the rare foods we acquire. In this picture you see Mamey Sapote (pronounced MUH-MAY SUH-POH-TAY). Mamey is native to Mexico and Central America where it grows prolifically and is very versatile in terms of use. When Mamey is ripe, just like the case we received here, they will be soft but not mushy and the color will be a bright reddish orange inside. The flavor is very delicate and boasts undertones of pumpkin, pear, and apricot while having a sweet and creamy texture. Next month we will be featuring Mamey Ice Cream(Nieve de Mamey). Be sure to stop in and ask for a sample of Mamey!
