"Many Lafayette students have expressed that they feel as though a barrier divides the cardio side of the fitness center from the weightlifting side. While a good number of students wish to use the fitness center to gain muscle, stay fit, and maintain healthy lifestyles, others choose to avoid the gym because of a lack of experience or knowledge of fitness training. Cardio equipment is easy to approach for most students, but the same cannot be said for free-weights and stre...ngth training machines. The fitness supervisors and I have discussed this barrier for a few semesters now and I believed that a session designed to teach students basic weightlifting would make that area of the fitness center less intimidating to them. - Drew Harmon.
