The Lake Winola UMC will be debuting a new Facebook Live experience tomorrow at approximately 10:00am. We are excited and hope this brings you a better worship service from wherever you are joining us from. I am sure that there will be some bugs to work out along the way but we think at this point almost anything would be an improvement. The United Methodist Church of Lake Winola is dedicated to helping the youth of its membership to attend to and succeed in the educational arena. The belief that "every child and will learn with the proper educational resources" is key to the church's philosophy in establishing this scholarship. The purpose of the Scholarship Foundation is to provide scholarships to deserving high school graduating seniors intending to pursue a course of study at either a two-year or four-yea...r educational institution. The maximum award will be $1,000. Every effort will be made to award scholarships to all graduating youth who meet the criteria set forth in in the guidelines. NOTE: Scholarship funds will be awarded to the student upon evidence of registration in an accredited higher educational institution. The funds will be paid directly to the educational institution. Criteria and eligibility: 1. Applicant must be a member of the United Methodist Church of Lake Winola for a minimum of two years. 2. Applicant must be graduating with a cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA. 3. Applicant must submit a 500-word essay to qualify. 4. Applicant must be accepted and registered at an accredited school of choice and show proof of acceptance. 5. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the Chairpersons of the church's Finance, Trustee, and Administrative Boards. General Instructions: 1. DEADLINE for scholarship applications is March 15, 2021 (no exceptions). Mailed applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2021. 2. Refer to the application process below for a list of supporting documents needed. 3. Type/print legibly. Illegible applications will not be considered. You may download a copy of the application from the Lake Winola UMC Face Book website, or you can request an application by emailing [email protected] or calling the Church office at 570-378-2806. 4. You will be notified by mail in May regarding the status of your application. 5. If you have any questions, please contact the Church office at 570-378-2806. Application submission requirements: 1. A completed application form. 2. A letter of application addressed to the Scholarship Committee. The letter should contain a brief explanation on your goals and objectives for higher education and what steps, actions, or experiences you have taken to achieve those. The letter should not exceed one (1) page. 3. An official and recent high school transcript with cumulative GPA and a class standing/rank. 4. Proof that applicant was accepted at an accredited educational institution and applicant has registered at that institution. 5. Personal 500-word essay discussing "What is your favorite bible verse and why?" Essay must be double-spaced, 12 pt. Time New Roman font. Essay shall contain no grammatical errors.
