I see the trend for making lists of things you’ve done, etc. Here’s one that I intend to be helpful. Ten things a young person should know as you are starting... a career. 1. Secretaries (nowadays Administrative Assistants) rule the world. Be nice to them. 2. Live your life as if everything you do is going to be on the front page of the Washington Post. 3. Always tell the truth. People remember liars for a long time. 4. Relationships you make along the way will matter for a very long time. Cherish them. 5. Burning bridges is usually a mistake. 6. Your job is less important than your family. 7. If your spouse says you’re too busy (and this condition has lasted longer than a couple months) then you are too busy. Make changes. 8. Showing up on time is good. Being two minutes early is better. 9. Never trust a subordinate who always agrees with you. 10. You will never advance your career by turning your back on God.
