Within our Task Force we have a K-9 component with dogs and handlers. It is with deep regret that "Liberty", one of the original dogs to our group, has passed away yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers to Amos (his handler) on your loss.
Just before 3:00 PM, EFD was dispatched to the 500 block of Mark Drive for a vehicle accident stand-by. A vehicle had accidentally been driven partially through... the corner of a load bearing wall of a house and caused damage and structural instability. It was determined that the vehicle was supporting some of the structure's weight and could not be removed without risking further structural issues. The Lancaster County Rescue Task Force was requested and arrived at approximately 4:00 PM. The team worked to assess the structure and build temporary structural shoring so the vehicle could be safely removed. A huge thank you to PizzAtown who graciously donated food to all those on the call. Note - the Lancaster Rescue Task Force is comprised of Blue Rock Fire Rescue, Manheim Township Fire Rescue, and the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire. These departments maintain the specialized training and equipment to handle a variety of technical rescue incidents such as structural collapse, trench collapse, high angle rope rescue, and confined space rescue.
Just before 12:00 PM, EFD was dispatched to the 300 block of Hershey Road for an industrial rescue. Initial reports were that a large piece of equipment had fal...len and trapped a man underneath it. Based on this info and the nature of the work performed at the location, LCWC added the Lancaster County Rescue Task Force. EFD arrived and found that quick thinking and fast acting coworkers had utilized a nearby forklift to partially lift the large object off of the patient and then stabilized it with on site materials. NWEMS was already on site and providing patient care. Firefighters utilized cribbing to provide additional shoring and stabilization and prepared the pneumatic lifting bags in the event that additional clearance was needed. Ultimately the patient was able to be removed without any further lifting.
