* * * * P U B L I C. N O T I C E. * * * * Due to increasing number of posts and comments regarding the invasive spotted lantern fly in our region, I am posting the PA state department of agriculture hotline where all sightings are to be reported here. Penn State University is also actively monitoring the situation and you can reach them at the number below as well as get direct links to the online reporting form. ... Please report all sightings as soon as possible to help scientists develop a plan to stop their advancement throughout the area. Thank you PA DOA hotline. 1-888-422-3359

So. This is one of the hardest posts I have had to formulate. The Lyceum's goal (obviously as founder and admin it is mine as well) is to celebrate, unify and document Landenberg PA. To provide an identity, and sense of community. To create a living online presence and a series of books and events aimed at growing us closer together, into something more reminiscent of the bustling community that predates us by 120 years. Our area is rich in history, from the Lenai-lenape to...Continue reading

10:00pm update. I HAVE heard from the attorneys from EcoSite, and have THIS to report. EcoSite wished to appeal and therefore this issue was listed on the agenda for 7/23, but T-Mobile determined it is no longer feasible for them to pursue this request, given the combative stance assumed by New Garden township BOS and ZHB and without a carrier, EcoSite has nothing to gain by continuing. We will be getting a steel monopole, sometime in the next three years. ...Continue reading

Edit: if your name is added to this post you are on group invite list. It has been brought to my attention various acts of vandalism (mostly defacing of wood structures in preserve) have occurred perhaps due to recent events so I propose we organize a citizen's beautification committee to go stain or if needed paint these structures to return them to their natural state. The olden days Lyceums were meeting places for educated and skilled citizens to teach, learn and provid...e community services. All are welcome, regardless of skill level, and we will return peace and prosperity to our surroundings as best we can as a community service. Please comment if you are not named and able to help, by providing labor or supplying paint/stain and brushes. We won't need much to make a big difference. Looking at next week weather and schedule wise. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. During this time of upheaval and isolation, I have noticed many generous people giving things away. To me, a remarkable silver lining (since I always look for one) to a generally untenable situation. I believe this is partly the result of a community wide deep cleaning performed by residents stuck at home with nothing else to do but it still provides a wonderful opportunity. So every week on Monday night I will post the Porch Pick up post where you can notify your neighbors... of items and supplies, be they surplus, or general clean out of things no longer in use BUT STILL USEFUL items. I will pin that post to the top.of the community group wall and update it each week so most members see it. The group activity has always been high and participation rate is holding steady but overall activity has doubled so pinned posts are the most effecient at reaching the most people. Porch Pick up. Week of 4/27 begins here. Please comment below.

In an effort to boost local commerce as well as fund various ideas for assorted community pages and events, I will be offering the Landenberg Neighbors banner as a virtual ad for local businesses for only $40 a week. You simply provide a formatted picture with your business information and I will update it to the group header on the Sunday night of your selected week. This group has nearly 2000 members, with over 10,000 posts and comments per month and maintains a high leve...l of participation so I am certain the expense will be worth it. This campaign will run throughout the spring and summer, on a first come, first served basis, so get your preferred week right away. As dates are booked, I will delete them from the posted list so you know what is still available Available placement dates March 8, 15, 22 and 29 April 5, 12, 19, 25 May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 June 7, 14, 21, 28 July 5, 12, 19, 26 August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 September 6, 13, 20, 27 PM Joseph Birmingham on Facebook or email [email protected] to reserve your spot today Thank you

We have a burgeoning wine industry in the region being dubbed the up and coming east coast Napa Valley. Expect to see more locally grown wines winning awards in the near future.

We delivered nearly 100 more pounds of food and supplies yesterday thanks to our generous and caring neighbors. KACS is actually doing pretty well on replacing food stores. When I asked, they advised hygiene products are always welcome and put to immediate use. For those interested in continuing to assist, non perishable food items are still wonderful but for some of those in need, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers (ages 2-3) deodorant, soap, shampoo, bodywash, feminine pro...ducts and even toilet paper can be a blessing. Russell and I will continue to transport donations every Friday. Thank you to all who have donated. https://www.facebook.com/KennettFoodCupboard/

As I understand it, we had a near miss on another successful rescue today. So first, let me wish Emily & Jessie a quick reunion, I am so sorry she managed to get loose twice! Not to diminish that, let me touch on an related issue somewhat dear to me. I grew up on The Hill (everyone who grew up there or near there knows where I mean) and we acquired too many furred friends to count by way of people "discarding" them. When I grew up I vowed to only rescue, not buy. I was ...proud papa of a half dozen awesome dogs as a result. (NOT all at once!) And untold cats. After establishing an online community group to share my musings and photographs of historical import, I wondered "what else can this forum be good for"? Then came the first lost dog post, and as they say, the rest is history. Obviously unlike the jokes, the group is about MUCH more then lost pets, but it HAS contributed to the successful reunion of 248 animals in 6 species! And not only am I (as should you be) proud of that (it's remarkable) I want to do more. I floated the idea a year ago, of establishing a pet registry and was met with well stated concerns of resident's privacy and safety interfering with an open online registry's effectiveness. I think I have figured it out. And figured out a way to make it fair and manageable for all. Through my non profit, I can establish and host a smart phone app. There IS cost involved, but I have an idea. Startup cost aside, the hosting cost for an app that can accommodate 2000 users, is around $400 a month. This would be a login required encrypted app you could download on your phone. First 100 users pay $4 a month to register their pet and be included in the network. When each subsequent threshold of 100 new users enrolls, the first 100 stop paying and are grandfathered in and the second gen foots the bill. The overlap can cover domain updates and hosting increases and eventually pay for hosting the domain once no new members are joining. This way no member pays more than $48 ($412 months-IF it takes a year to gain 100 users which I doubt) and we can all access and utilize a private app where our information stays secure. Fast forward 2 years. Imagine your dog gets loose and there are 500 (or more!) subscribers that can log in and seek a match and obtain contact info, (we could coordinate records with already microchipped animals as well) on your pet, all in real time, while dealing with containing the pet. Even if your pet is not microchipped, it will vastly increase the odds and reduce the lag time and essentially eliminate near miss heart breaks like we experienced today. If I had the means, I would provide it for free, but I think it's worth 50 bucks per member regardless. I would love to hear your thoughts, and also get a better idea of how many pets there actually are in Landenberg, I am sure the number is substantial. Thanks as always for your comments, contributions and support.
