Larksview Foundation is trying to help by building face shields to distribute to healthcare workers in the ICU, Emergency Department, and to EMS workers in New York and Pennsylvania. If you can please help us purchase some of the supplies, or put these together in your home and we can pick them up. We appreciate whatever help you can do. Right now people are using the shields over and over again and especially the foam is probably not so clean.

We are so happy to share this video. Thanks to the Day of Giving donations from Facebook we’ve been able to provide equipment to test hemoglobin levels in a remote part of the island we visited last October. This machine will help to test and track those with Sickle Cell disease and other forms of anemia to see when they might need transfusions. In the past this was an expensive undertaking to send them on a bus to the hospital to get the test. In many cases they were not at ...a level needing transfusion and just went back and forth without treatment. Thank you so much to who donated to make this happen!!! There are other projects also being undertaken with the funds, and we continue to provide some medications and tracking of blood pressures as well. Blood pressure remains the number one health issue for those we visited. More to come!!

We were so excited to get all these new photos of children going through our Formula for Success program. These children all seem to be thriving and healthy. We are so grateful that we’ve been able to be some small part of their lives. Thanks to all who have supported Larksview past or present.

We are so happy to see our Formula for Success program growing and so many little ones thriving as a result. For obvious reasons, our ability to fund raise this year has been severely impacted by the Covid virus. We were unable to do our 5K and it doesn’t look like we will be able to have our gala this year. If you can offer any support to help us keep this program growing and helping children in need we would really appreciate it.

Hi Everyone! I see a lot of people are checking in looking for updates. So, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get a visa to go to Tanzania and make our clinic trip this year. Of course we are unhappy about this. But, there is a lot more going on. We have four more newborns just recently entering our Formula for Success program. Because of Larksview’s donors, any baby brought to the Upendo wa Mungu Clinic in Kasansa Tanzania who is unable to get maternal breast milk for... the first year of life receives their formula at no cost. This program is growing despite all obstacles. I’ve attached some pictures below of the newest infants entering the program. The women in the pictures are usually aunts or grandmothers. Maternal death is the most common reason for babies to enter our program. One newborn is seen with a cleft palette. We are told that since he was able to gain the weight needed because of the formula we provided, he now has undergone successful repair of the cleft lip and is doing well. Photos to come. We continue to need donations to support providing formula. We are also starting to build cisterns for Mafia Island. We have commissioned the first one from Tori Rasmussen and look forward to seeing it built. We are working on some larger grants so that we can provide fresh, salt-free water where it is needed on this island. This should help reduce the extreme hypertensive crisis we saw with adults and the dehydration we saw among young children. We’ve also provided equipment in Mafia to test for hemoglobin so the children with sickle cell don’t have to make frequent trips to larger hospitals. Locally, we continue to make and distribute plastic face shields and healthcare providers in need both in PA and NY. Finally, we are sad to say that COVID-19 has now reached the small and remote island where we work. On Mafia Island, there was very limited PPE. With the help of Iris, Conni, and Karibuni Onlus, we were able to help procure and distribute hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks to local clinics. We want to send a big thank you out to Dr. Daniel and the members of College Hill Presbyterian Church. Their donations have made all the difference in the last few months. Without their help all of this would not have been possible. I hope you’re all staying safe and doing well through this terrible pandemic. We look forward to seeing you on the other side. Please keep checking in! We will try to do better with our updates.

All the materials are here and assembly is underway! We will start distributing face shields on Thursday. Thank you so much to everyone who donated! We’ve heard from people at care facilities, EMS crews, and hospitals that need these. We will be continuing to make these for a while, so if you know of a group or facility in need please let us know.
