We were saddened to hear of the passing of Bro. Emery Mollenhauer this weekend. We will especially miss seeing him on his daily walks around campus, but are honored to preserve the legacy of his impact on La Salle in the University Archives. https://www.lasalle.edu//emery-c-mollenhauer-fsc-la-salle/

As our city and nation witnesses renewed calls to end systemic racism and pursue equal justice in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and so many other Black Americans before him, we wanted to acknowledge that the La Salle University Archives supports the June 2 statement from the Society of American Archivists, which reads in part that, "As a profession, we stand by our community and acknowledge, unequivocally, that Black Lives Matter." In addition, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some photos from a Black Lives Matter demonstration held on our campus in February 2016, as well as a followup editorial published in the Collegian. https://www2.archivists.org//saa-council-statement-on-blac

This Day in La Salle History - On this historic commencement day in 1962, five women received honorary degrees. The five Sisters who served as presidents of local Catholic women’s colleges Chestnut Hill, Rosemont, Immaculata, Holy Family, and Cabrini were all saluted for contributions to higher education. A dinner for the Sisters and guests was given afterwards at the Barclay Hotel.

On this Memorial Day, we reflect on the lives of our alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice. You can learn about the La Salle students and alumni who lost their lives in World War II in the Winter 2014 issue of La Salle Magazine: http://digitalcommons.lasalle.edu/lasalle_magazine/238/

May 22, 1868: The first annual Exhibition and Concert by the Pupils of the Christian Brothers’ Academy was conducted at the Academy of Music. It consisted of oratory, music performed by La Salle’s band, and a play entitled Running for Congress. Although La Salle was chartered as a college in 1863, the administration desired the general public to refer to La Salle as Academy of the Christian Brothers until autumn 1868, when a sufficient number of students had at last entered their final collegiate year, thus assuring the first granting of bachelor’s degrees in June 1869.
