On January 28, 1963 the campus of Saint Vincent College was struck by a fire causing an estimated two million dollars in damages. The college biology building, the 128 foot bell tower, the top floor of Benedict Hall, as well as the old student chapel built in 1835 were destroyed by the fire. At 8:30 in the morning the temperature was 10 degrees below zero. 31 fire companies battled the fire that took most of the day to be brought under control. Photos courtesy of Harry Frye.
