In times of heaviness, what lifts up your soul? What do you do to lift up your soul to The Lord?

We are grateful for the presence of all who gathered for conversation and prayer last night as we mourned with the victim’s family the death of Ricardo Muñoz. Thank you for your prayers and notes of love and encouragement for all whose hearts are heavy in the Laurel Street neighborhood. In this traumatic and dark time, a glimmer of light was shining last evening. Our systems are broken. A life of one of our neighbors has ended. Family members, friends and neighbors are grieving with a loss that could have been prevented. We want to pay attention, pray, have conversation, and advocate for ways we can better respond to mental health needs and systemic racial inequality. We welcome your ideas as we continue to listen, speak, act, and unite together as a community in our efforts to seek healing, peace, and justice. Pastors Ron and Judy

This evening a time of prayer and conversation will be held in the Laurel Street Mennonite Church parking lot from 6:00 - 6:45. Community is welcome to join us. We will wear masks and social distance. Yesterday, we worshiped in our church parking lot with the theme of Holy Ground/Holy Spaces. Four hours later there was a shooting directly across the street and the holy ground of our parking lot became the staging area and command center for the police. We desire to pray for... and brainstorm about ways we can assist our community to find holy ground in the midst of the trauma and tension. This will not go away overnight. You are welcome to arrive this evening any time after 5:30 to start conversation of how we can bring God’s healing presence, comfort, peace, and love to our neighborhood and city. Thank you for your prayer and support. Pastors Ron and Judy, Laurel Street Mennonite Church

In preparation for Sunday, you are invited to take a contemplative walk: a time to wander in the world prayerfully and with reverence, opening to the gifts being revealed. A contemplative walk is one without a particular destination in mind, only an invitation to connect to your heart, breathe deeply, and listen to how things are unfolding before you. What is shimmering in the world around you, beckoning you to pay closer attention? Allow some time to be present to the world and to really notice the season. Where do you see life bursting forth? Where do you see signs of creation’s weariness, thirst, or hunger? When you slow yourself down, what are the signs you discover?
