Many of you may not know, but I originally went to school to be a teacher and director. I worked in the early childhood field in all capacities for over 25 years! When I gave up teaching, I couldn't completely walk away, so I became a Professional Development Specialist, working for the CDA Council of Early Education, observing and mentoring new preschool teachers. I had to renew by the end of March, and I couldn't decide if I wanted to do it, but I remembered how good it feels every time I leave a center after observing a future candidate. I never want to stop learning. I never want to stop teaching. I never want to stop making a difference in the life of a child. I'm glad I renewed and I look forward to mentoring the next generation of early childhood educators!

Today is my 48th birthday. I am not the type to care about people knowing my age. I'm more interested in sharing my journey. I would say it began around the time my father died, and got much stronger soon after, when I lost my baby brother. Life was safe before then. I had learned how to hide my pain really well. There was no hiding anymore, and all of a sudden, a little girl, around 3 or 5 years old emerged and kept bothering me until I finally gave her attention. I soon... realized how much nurturing she needed, and I set out, like the empathetic person I am, to appease her. I had to learn boundaries and how to protect myself, sometimes by removing toxic people from my life. I learned that it's not selfish to take care of myself, and that putting my immediate family first is not only OK but necessary! I learned that "family" is not necessarily blood relatives. I learned that it's ok to be heard and it's ok to express your feelings, even when they're not always positive. I learned how to love unconditionally, even if it means going against everything I was taught to be true. I learned how to be myself, even if people around me don't agree. I learned that my relationship with GD is just that...MY relationship with Him.. Most importantly, I learned how to love myself, with flaws and all.
